Dave McKean To Direct Comic Book "CAGES " Movie

Cages was a ten-issue comic book limited series by Dave McKean between the year 1990 and 1996, and later it was collected as a single volume.
Cages is a story about artists, belief, creativity and cats, illustrated in a stripped-down pen and ink style. Now it may be a movie...

Back in 1990, cover artist Dave McKean (Sandman) wrote and illustrated an engrossing comics mini-series called 'Cages' for Kevin Eastman's art house comics shingle Tundra Publishing. The ten-issue series took a whopping six years to complete, eventually closing out with Kitchen Sink Press.

The book is award-winning and is very hard to summarize as it focused on a variety of people living in an apartment complex and their different intersecting stories. It stands as a much-loved example of comics as a means of artistic expression beyond the popular genres that are often represented.

Dave McKean has continued to grow as an artist and now branched out into filmmaking as well. He's expanded his multimedia approach to digital motion pictures and directed two great movies that capture his unique style: the obscure 'N[eon]' and the weird movie you may of heard about called 'Mirrormask' Which by the way was scripted by his pal Neil Gaiman.

It now appears a filmed version of 'Cages' may be in the works with Dave McKean directing it. The news was broke on his Twitter post.

"Great first meeting about 'Cages' film," McKean wrote, continuing, "a long term possibility, but good to know all interested parties are on the same page."

The artist and filmmaker then followed up with some additional details. "I would be adapting + directing.I did 'Cages' 20yrs ago, think it could grow into unusual animated film."

Thanks to Mania.com for the heads up.

LEEE777 - I really don't know much about this one, but it certainly worth keeping an eye out for in the future.
