Do We Want DC to Change EVERYTHING?

Do We Want DC to Change EVERYTHING?

With DC's announcement of rebooting 52 titles beginning on August 31st with Justice League #1, there's also been word of changes in some of the costumes. Bleeding Cool has raised the horrifying possibility that the company may change the attire of some of our favorite heroines!

Reports the author, "I understand that there is an editorial edict for the DC Comics superlaunch that their female superheroes wear more… practical clothing. So Wonder Woman gets to keep her trousers. But the likes of Supergirl will be redesigned so they aren’t running around in a little skirt flashing their panties at every available opportunity either... They can still wear tightblack PVC, but gone are the days when the uniforms informed you whether or not your favourite superheroine had undergone special shaving."

The article points out that there has been no word regarding breasts at this point, but what does this mean for the future of Power Girl? The thought of what could happen.... well, it's just too much to handle.

Good, sometimes too revealing costumes make some comics look like soft porn (Star Sapphire anyone?).

Don't get me wrong I love the revealing costumes but it makes it really hard to take the female heroes as serious as the males. Its about time they start covering them up and leaving something to the imagination and allowing the females to get some respect.

ITS ONLY TEMPORARY! LITERALLY! the reverse Flash is going back and forth in time changing everyone's history. but Barry Allen is trying to stop him and change things back. I'm sure that maybe in a year they will be back to normal. So don't you worry!!

@JatevinM...I've been saying that all along. Give the female heroes a respectable uniform for a change. Most of them look like a converted cheerleader outfit or something they picked up at the local adult bookstore from the fetish section.

I dont mind Power Girl having a hole in her chest, admittedly its revealing but it's not that bad, just make the hole smaller if its such an issue, as for the 'swimsuit' bottom bit, I just think thats a bit unrealistic, so just give her some long leg pants or something...

Meh. As long as the new costumes looks good and keep to the character then whatever. Personally, I'm happy Superman got rid of the undies. They just looked lame.

Comics change all the time, especially in these times when the companies are scrambling to keep their comics fresh and relevant. Readership drops so they have to change things up, so if you really like the orignal costumes, buy the comics where they are wearing them.

Knightstalker@ I don't know why it hasnt been done before now. The respectable costumes need to stay even if the even is reversed. The slutty costumes may be one reason why comics has lost alot of its younger demographic because parents aren't letting them read them.

I'm still not comfortable about the sudden last minute decision to reboot the DC Universe. When I first saw the preview pic for Justice League #1 for next September I was at least ok about everyone's suit changes except Superman. Come ON! Supes in a high collar, red belt, trunks lacking, Ugly "S" shield wearing uniform? I think that Jim Lee is great at his craft, but he, whether it was his doing or DC, should have known better than this. This shows some proof of the stuggles that this comic corporation is losing in. This is just DC's way of telling us all that these changes were long overdue and if we don't like it, TOUGH! NOT THE BEST SIGNS TO GIVE FANS OF DC. Especially, if this clues us all into what's planned for future feature films.

The issue with women heroes wearing sexy threads is because of sales. My past professor Tom Lyle told me a story where he did a Spider-Man comic and on the cover had Black Cat, but he toned down all the sexual stuff. Editor sent it back and put a note saying "Needs more cleavage showing"

It all boils down to dollar signs, and boobs sells.
canvilella
canvilella - 6/2/2011, 8:32 AM
That sounds like bullshit to me! Anyone who talks about giving the female characters respect by giving them less slutty costumes is simply oblivious to the fact that most women love to dress up like sluts! They'll take any excuse they can find to do so!!!

Go to any, ANY, halloween party and you'll see a "sexy nurse" or a "sexy firefighter", sexy this, sexy that. Do a google search for "women halloween costume" and you'll se what I'm talking about, there's even sexy girl versions of male superhero costumes for crying our loud!!!

Hell, go to any comic book convention, you'll see hundreds of girls dressed up in skimpy outfits from comics and anime. Girls love showing their stuff! And who are we, or the suits at DC to stop them from doing that??? I certainly ain't complaining about it!!!

Power Girl is my favorite DC heroine, and I respect her plenty IN SPITE OF THE COSTUME!! Just because a man whacks off to a woman doesn't mean he doesn't respect her! It means he wants to have sex with her in a respectible fashion! I shudder to think that our society (supposedly liberal according to everyone on the radio) is actually growing more CONSERVATIVE in a lot of ways!

i love CBM's and doing wiki checks on CBM characters, but i dont actually read comics (wierd huh) but i think its a good idea changing all the costumes, one thing that has kept me completely disinterested in dc (till the GL trailers) has been their daggy costumes. compare spidey and superman. supes looks heaps better now, id be able to take the character more seriously if he looked less cheesy. also, glasses and acting meek do not cover up your secret identity. and im batman. that is all.

I buy comics for tits and ass. Take that away and i'll definitely switch to porn. For DC execs that haven't had a math class since they dropped out, THAT'S ONE LESS READER. And i know full well i'm not the only one. People that don't like tits and ass don't even like books with too many pictures to them, so they won't be getting "more" readers by toning it down. Any story can be good just like any cut of meet. The tits and ass is the spice you put on them that makes the difference in what i'll actually put my money on. Can't take the heat, get outa the kitchen.

I like Supergirl the most cause, she is the defender of the innocent and she fights for Truth, Justice, and an American Way and standing for up for the Women's Rights here in America.

She disguises herself as Linda-Lee Danvers (Living outside of Chicago) in a small town called Midvale well, the incarnation has been changed all over the years. Now, in the new era she teams up with Power Girl, Wonder Woman, Batgirl, and Wonder Girl fighting against the enemies
