EMILY THE STRANGE Gets A New Writer; Chloe Grace Moretz Still Attached

We'd assumed this one had fallen apart as it had been a long time since we'd heard anything from it, but according to The Wrap it's still on track with new writer Kealan O’Rourke on board..and Kick-Ass 2's Moretz still set to star as the titular character.

According to The Wrap, Kealan O’Rourke will rewrite Emily the Strange for Universal, with Chloe Grace Moretz starring as the goth girl from the Dark Horse graphic novels. Mirror Mirror scribe Melisa Wallack wrote a previous draft of the script. Created by Rob Reger and his company Cosmic Debris in 1993, Emily the Strange has become an internationally known icon for "individualism, female empowerment, and do-it-yourself style". The character has graced everything from T-shirts, dresses, and underwear, to toys, guitars, and school supplies. She'll be best known to CBMers from her series of comic books of course, and Dark Horse Entertainment’s founder and president Mike Richardson will produce the film adaptation.

I wonder how big the audience for this is and if it's not better to make it animated, especially as she might grow out of character

This kid is getting role after role. Good for her. At least she's still working. Most child stars usually vanish before 13.

Yeah, I won't hold my breath. And if the movie does ever get made, Chloe's already aged out of the part. Unless they WANT to inappropriately sexualize Emily... Which they probably will come to think of it.

Meh. Not everything needs to be live action these days. This would work much better animated, the crowd this type of series appeals to tends to prefer animation as well.

And is Moretz the only up and coming starlet out there right now? I like her but damn. A young Christina Ricci type would be perfect but I don't know of any young actresses out there like that.
