Wachowskis are played out, made Matrix and then everything after was just a crap continuing to roll done hill. No high expectations for them.

There is some truth to your statement, though I really loved Cloud Atlas.

Matrix changed everyone's outlook. It really did. I felt... different walking out of the theater. But, honestly, they turned into George Lucas. First movie of the series was bloody fantastic, but beyond it, they didn't really have a vision to continue it. They winged it. And it shows... greatly.

You guys are spitting nonsense. The Wachowskis are terrible because they are pushing the boundaries of the medium to the max?

No they are terrible because their films suck.

Say what you want about the Wachowskis, but, Speed Racer was great. And I loved the Matrix trilogy. Yeah, I said it...

The Wackoski's are thieves... Something most people are unaware of. The Matrix concept wasn't even their idea. They stole it from a woman named Sophia Stewart, in which she sued in response and won over 1 billion dollars, to which media coverage on it was totally eliminated... to preserve supposed 'integrity'.

Never cared for those two losers. The only boundaries they push is their own pockets.

@Jer3miah, that's actually untrue. Sophia Stewart was never actually able to provide even the tiniest bit of proof to support her claim of the Wachowskis stealing her script/ideas. She was a no-show in court (most likely because she made the whole thing up), never proved her case, which lead to it being thrown out.

She was never awarded over a billion dollars or any money at all, because she never went through with her lawsuit. As I said before, she didn't follow through by showing up to court to back up her claim.

If I'm not mistaken, a few years ago a college newspaper received some misinformation about Stewart winning her case and over a billion dollars (completely untrue) and printed it. A few smaller websites picked up on the story and ran with it. And that's where the story you referenced came from. Like you pointed out, no major media outlets covered it, but not because anyone was trying to hide anything, but because they actually had the correct information and knew the story and case had no substance.

If you're interested, look up a podcast called Black Tribbles and search for an episode where they interviewed her. She sounds a little erratic and less than stable. Her story is also a little far-fetched.

She claims she wrote the screenplay that inspired The Matrix (as well as Terminator, according to her) in the late 70s or early 80s and shopped it to Fox and other studios around 1981/1982. She says she never heard back from them. She then says she was reading a local sci-fi magazine in 1986, when she saw an ad (supposedly placed by the Wachowskis) in the back asking for ideas for comic book, which she submitted her script. She then heard nothing back from them.

Sometime after The Matrix was released (possibly 2000 or 2001) she actually saw the movie, as well as Terminator for the first time and she felt she'd been ripped off.

Hear are my problems with her story. If her supposed script was so good and she believed in it, why after taking it to a few studios and not hearing anything from them, would she completely drop trying to sell the script? Why not take it to other studios? And then after 5 years of not doing anything with it, does it make sense to send your prized script to complete unknowns whose name you found in the back of a magazine for a comic book in lieu of a film? (It should be noted that The Wachowskis claim they never put any ads in any magazine, not to mention that Stewart claims she can't remember the magazine's name or provide any proof of the ad.

Another problem is that Stewart claims to be this student of science fiction, specifically futurism, time travel, artificial intelligence, ect. She makes notes of being especially fond of stories featuring savior or chose one type characters. With that in mind, does it not ring false that someone who claims to be an ardent fan of those things would not have seen a major mainstream film series like Terminator, which features all those concepts, until 2000/2001? Can you believe a sci-fi fan who was around when those huge movies came out would not have bothered or even been interested in seeing them until decades after they came out? As much hype that surrounded The Matrix, you're telling me she didn't see the film in 1999, nor had any idea what the story was about until a year or two later? This great fan of science fiction didn't see or was even aware of the two most prominent films that featured the concepts she loved? Seems unlikely.

With that being said, it doesn't mean The Wachowskis aren't thieves, just not regarding Sophia Stewart. There's a clear cut case that they lifted large parts of The Matrix from Grant Morrison's The Invisibles. So much so that the movie shares visual cues with the comic, as well as featuring scenes lifted directly from the book. There's no mistaking the visual similarities between the Invisibles' King Mob and The Matrix's Morpheus, who both serve as mentor to the "Chosen" protagonist of their respective stories. The Invisibles features a scene very similar to The Matrix scene where Neo must jump from a building, involving the comic's protagonist.
