Not only Hellboy II but The Dark Knight, Incredible Hulk, Iron Man and Hancock are looking at possible Oscar Nominations.

It seems that the Dark Knight is not the only comic book movie that is getting the attention of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

It was announced that The Dark Knight, Hancock, Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, and Hellboy II are all semifinalists for the Achievement in Visual Effects for the 81st Annual Accademy Awards.

15 movies in total have been announced in the category and 3 will recieve the nomination. Cross your fingers and hope for Hellboy II along with the other comic book movie semifinalists.

well in fairness they are only effects noms..great for the movies and all but i was hoping for some acting or directing nominations for the dark knight

yeah I agree with rorshach

but I think Iron Man will win the visual effects...I mean the the graphics looked too real in my opinion...

Dark Knight IS most likely going to get nominated for acting and directing.
However this is Hellboy News, and so far I beleive Hellboy II is only in the running for visual effects.
The effects make these movies, the acting can be great but its also the effects which sell the believability.
Heath Ledger is already in the running or has won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor. Expect more to come.

I would have to put it to Hellboy II for the amazing fight scenes, non-human characters and amazing settings.
The otherworldly beings were done beautifully and I think that the best runner up would be Iron Man for the insane flying sequences.
I didnt see Indiana Jones so I cant really comment.
