Marvel Theme Park Battles

Developing details on the theme park battles in the aftermath of the Marvel/Disney merger.

"Marvel wanted more moolah for the licensing agreement renewal, which Universal wanted to cut back. In the end, Universal severed ties with Marvel for the West Coast park, while maintaining an amicable relationship for the Orlando park."

So this means no dice for Disneyland in California. You won't see Spider-Man swing over a ride or Wolverine clawing through Magneto, not now anyway.

What does this mean for the walk around costume get-ups at Marvel's Super Hero Island in Orlando FL:

"Marvel Super Hero Island at Universal’s Islands of Adventure and the Marvel characters are a beloved and important part of the Universal Orlando experience. They will remain so. Our guests are going to get to meet Spider-Man and all our other Marvel characters. We believe our agreement with Marvel stands and that the Disney/Marvel deal will have no impact on our guest experience."

That last line "We believe our agreement" sounds to me that they are not as confident in that deal. That's about it for now. Stay tuned for further developments.

I think this might end up being a good thing, Disney definitley know how to hadle theme park rides and with characters like Spider-Man and Hulk and Wolverine I'm sure they could do a lot with them

How does that mean no dice for the West Coast park though? If they severed ties there, couldn't Disney work the characters into Disneyland?

This will probably be an awesome theme park if they implement marvel characters.

They need to leave that park at Universal Studios alone. The Hulk rollercoaster is great, and the Spiderman 3D ride is awesome.

Oh yeah I went to U.S. Orlando a few years ago and I loved their Marvel Adventure land. Spiderman ride was awesome I went on it 10 times. Also I don't want to see Marvel heroes at Disneyland. It would throw off the place to me. Hell the Star Wars ride throws it off for me just a bit even though it is a fun ass ride.

Even if the characters left the rides would remain the same guys...they'd just repaint them and rename them.

marvel adventure island rocks. its the best place ever. i have season passes and go thier all the time. if it shuts down and gets moved to disney i will never go. i fckn hate disney world.

ryden@ what are you talking about? disney has no clue how to make theme park rides. there all bullshit stuff like small world and mr toads wild ride. its shit made for 5 year olds. they dont have a rollercoaster thats less than 30 years old and more than 2 stories tall. that place sucks when you get passed the age of 7. they have no idea how to do an adult theme park. captain eo anyone?

Universal would lose out if they let Marvel go from Orlando Its to big a part of the theme park. Spider Man 3D is the coolest ride ever.

Having Marvel at Disney World sort of retracts from the idea, there is WAY too much going on already there..

Disney World is how it should be.. Fantasy, magical etc.. And I agree, they're not that great on the rides front.. You just get captured in the whole aura of the place.. Once you're passed that..

On the other hand The Marvel Island at Universal is immense!! Got to speak to Wolverine, Storm and Spidey!! lol and the Spidey ride is the bomb!!

They have like all these big sort of stands of Magneto and Cyclops.. It's so cooool!!

I went to Florida in Dec 2005 lol :-P

Island of Adventure is awsome and I don't think is in any danger, even if Disney owns Marvel I'm sure the legal agreement can't be broken that easily.

One ticket, one choice, Disney or Marvel ? hmmmm, Would be great for a Disney vs Marvel live all out brawl in the theme park , just imagine, snow white vs medusa or cinderella vs black widow .... sounds great ! better than wrestling, greater than ultimate fighter...

THANK GOD!!!!!

That is a huge huge relief for me. Been to Orlando before and it's great! If they ever did take Marvel out of Universal, they can just put it at Disney World.

the spidey ride in orlando os very cool, but there have been so many advancements since it was built 10 years ago. For fark's sake, we still have to wear 3-D glasses? Oh well, we'll see what Disney brings to the table- an all Marvel superheroes theme park would be cool.

The last statement is open ended so they have an out if,or when Disney lawyers start breaking contracts. Guys, this is not good for Marvel. Has Disney improved ABC? Have they improved or expanded the audience of the Muppets?
It's truly a sad time for Marvel fans.

Disney should add Ghostrider to the Haunted Mansion, and have The Punisher kill Aerosmith on the Rockin' Roller Coaster.(JK. I like Aerosmith.)

I don't think Disney will try and get rid of the marvel section of island of adventures. That would just look realy bad for disney. Everyone is already outraged enough about this deal; if Disney trys to pull any more shit world war III will brake out
