The new Mean Girls movie arrived to buy or rent on Digital from Paramount Home Entertainment earlier this month and debuts on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on April 30. This time, the cast is led by Angourie Rice, Reneé Rapp, Auliʻi Cravalho, Christopher Briney, and Jaquel Spivey.
April 30 also happens to be the 20th anniversary of the original contemporary classic, 2004's Mean Girls, with that also hitting 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD the same day.
Last week, we had the opportunity to sit down with directors Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr. to discuss their work on the hilarious new musical comedy.
By now, you'll have no doubt heard that Lindsay Lohan makes a cameo appearance in the remake, paying homage to the fact she played the original Cady (now portrayed by Rice) in the 2004 classic. Here's what the filmmakers told us about that surreal day on set:
Samantha: Oh, it was an out-of-body experience. The fourteen-year-old girl in me was screaming. Like, she could not concentrate that day.
Arturo: You couldn’t sleep the night before.
Samantha: No, because I was so excited. I mean, it was such an honour to have her on and we were just so delighted to have her. She was so warm and wonderful with the cast too.
Arturo: It was wonderful watching both Cadys talk. We were doing the mathletes scene and it takes time to put everything together. They were just in the auditorium talking and I was just like, ‘What?’
Samantha: I know, it was such a happy day. We were absolutely thrilled to have her.
The filmmakers also talk us through casting the movie, the biggest challenges they faced with Mean Girls' musical numbers, and what inspired them to include a tongue-in-cheek post-credits scene. Watch the full interview in the player below:

From the comedic mind of Tina Fey comes a new twist on the modern classic Mean Girls. New student Cady Heron is welcomed into the top of the social food chain by the elite group of popular girls called 'The Plastics,' ruled by the conniving queen bee Regina George. However, when Cady makes the major misstep of falling for Regina’s ex-boyfriend Aaron Samuels, she finds herself prey in Regina’s crosshairs. As Cady sets to take down the group’s apex predator with the help of her outcast friends Janis and Damian, she must learn how to stay true to herself while navigating the most cutthroat jungle of all: high school.
