Our CBM community is one of the coolest on the Internet! We have some of the LARGEST comments sections online and enjoy seeing our readers actively contribute in articles and chat. It is our goal to keep this site as free and fun as possible.
BUT... With a site as large as CBM is, its no secret that we have our fair share of Trolls, Flamers and Spammers--not to mention just plain bad behavior that happens here. It's always been difficult to police because we like to give our users lots of freedom. And let's face it, sometimes we all enjoy a little debate--even a few well made snide retorts, and an insult or two. But we also know that it can get out of hand and devolve into stuff that crosses a line for many users.
In the past, when we would get a complaint about a user or a comment, we'd have to track it down and verify that it was as bad as reported. Check the user's past comments (or chat logs) to determine if this was just an aberration or if he/she was an actual troll trying to cause trouble for the site. Then, depending on the info gathered, we'd decide to just give a warning to the abuser or ban them from the site. Obviously, every case differs, and it takes a LOT of time.
We needed to find a better way to combat this problem. So, we've been wracking our brains for months now, and have come up with a solution that will allow YOU, the user, to be the judge on what you will tolerate on the site. We think we're the only site to have this, and its a completely unique idea.
We're bringing back Medieval Justice and putting it online!
Obviously, the system is new, and we'll be working out some kinks for the next few days. But as you help us by reporting legitimate abuse we think this idea will help keep our site civil and deter those who want only to cause trouble.
(Note: Before anybody get's their panties in a wad, listen here. If you find yourself with an abuse icon it doesn't mean you are in immediate danger and we are going to disable your account. This system is to help us better identify and track CONSISTENT abusers and serious trolls. They are the only ones that need fear our medieval justice. And no, Grif is not in danger even though he tops the list of reports. Everybody know's he's our resident contrarian, but he's not a Troll.)
