“Into the Woods” is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy)—all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife (James Corden & Emily Blunt), their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch (Meryl Streep) who has put a curse on them.

Rob Marshall, the talented filmmaker behind the Academy Award®-winning musical “Chicago” and Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” helms the film, which is based on the Tony®-winning original musical by James Lapine, who also penned the screenplay, and legendary composer Stephen Sondheim, who provides the music and lyrics. Produced by Marshall, John DeLuca, “Wicked” producer Marc Platt and Callum McDougall.

Starring Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, James Corden, Anna Kendrick and Chris Pine, “Into the Woods” is a humorous and heartfelt musical that follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel—all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them.

Disney's "Into The Woods" is in cinemas January 2015

I can't be the only one who still wants to give it to Meryl Streep, right? I know she's like a 100 years old and the CGI may have reduced her age, but I can't be crazy...right?

Everything about this film gives off the impression that it's going to be a masterpiece from the trailer and synopsis, to the cast and crew. Hopefully it won't disappoint.

I wish Disney would do a real prequel to Beauty and the Beast. The original fairy tale's backstory is almost Game of Throne type epic.

A jealous hag-fairy that raised the young prince while his mother, the queen went off to fight a 15-year long war after her husband died. Meanwhile Belle's mother is a renegade fairy that fell in love with a king. But she was taken away under house arrest by the fairy court for marrying a mortal man. And while the jealous old fairy tried to charm the king's heart in the form of a gorgeous enchantress, the King remained loyal to his lost wife and toddler daughter. Enraged, the fairy had a group of assassins kidnap the child and kill her. Before they could however, Belle's aunt, her mother's sister, transformed into a bear, mauled the assassins to death and took the child to a merchant who would raise her as a sort of witness-protection program. And so on, and so on...

In the late 90's I was a prop man for a production of this play. I never knew anything about it before then but watching it...it really is pretty clever, funny and interesting.

Honestly the only thing that bugged me was seeing Johnny Depp in another bizarre outfit.

Ugh...here comes another over-the-top caricature he could play in his sleep by now.

Can't believe Meryl looks better in this especially at 1:49 than Anna Kendrick.

That's a good thought @Scion. Disney has already tried the backstory film with Oz and Maleficent.

I like pretty much everything about this... except for Johnny Depp's weird shit. Why must the Wolf look like THIS? It's sad, but this really makes me not wanna see this.

Looks fantastic. I'll be seeing it. :) It'll be hard to beat Les Miserables though! (current favorite musical)

Johnny Depp needs to stop making these movies. Turrrrible.

Also, Meryl Streep could get it.

And Anna Kendrick...

"And all will have a happy ending."

"Not always."

Since it's a musical and Disney, then that would be a double yes on the happy ending.

;P

Don't get me wrong. I love happy endings.

That said, this looks like borefest.

Was in this show cast as one of the Prince's... a theatrical masterpiece written by one of the greats Stephen Sondheim. But We'll see how Disney does with it, took them long enough to get this onto the big screen IMO

Okay, seriously guys. You have to watch the original play from American Playhouse. It breaks the 4th wall so much and makes fun of all the fairy tale characters. There lots of intense action and a lot of humor, not to mention romance. It's one of the best plays out there and it's just so well done. You have to go see it! I seriously can't wait for this movie! The castings perfect and it looks fantastic!!

Very smart. The film could very well be the shit-festival teased in the trailer, but the Christmas release date turns it into a fun night at the movies not to be scrutinized. Or.... Scrooginized.

I can dig it, grave.<--- rap punchline

Don't think I'll be seeing this. The trailer looks okay but its just not my thing. It seems a little bit like that show Once Upon a Time.
