Patrick Stewart Receives Knighthood

The sci-fi genre legend was Knighted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace today...

Stewart is of course best known to all of us here as Professor Xavier in The X-Men movies, and as Captain Picard in Star Trek The Next Generation. But since his last appearance in X3 the classically trained actor has returned to the stage and could most recently be seen on the London stage appearing alongside fellow X-Men alumnus and fellow Knight Sir Ian McKellen in Waiting for Godot.

Sir Patrick said his knighthood - announced in the New Year Honours List - had been "an unlooked-for honour".

"But as I grew up as a child, falling in love with the theatre and Shakespeare, my heroes were Sir Laurence Olivier [and] Sir John Gielgud," he continued.

"The knights of the theatre represented to me not only the pinnacle of the profession but the esteem in which the profession was held.

"To find myself, to my astonishment, in that company is the grandest thing that has professionally happened to me."

Last we heard from Stewart regarding a return to the X universe he had said he would be happy to, and relished the thought of working with Ian McKellen again. But now that James McAvoy has taken over the role..at least the younger version, unless any more X movies are made with the same cast its unlikely we will see Stewart in the wheelchair again. Anyway, congrats Sir, you deserve it.

Thanks to Ceg for the tip:)

Yeah if he plays him right from the start it will be ridiculous..UNLESS, they completely recast all the mutants from Wolverine, which, wouldn't be a bad thing! I'm not necessarily looking forward to First Class, but Vaughan is one director I would trust to at least make an entertaining romp.

I can't see them using STEWART ever for the FIRST CLASS movie!

McAvoy, if he is PROF X? (Beter BEAST though), could just be flashbacks hopefully?!?

I personally reckon BETTANY would own that comic book role!

Anyway agree with you lot, VAUGHAN will make it something with what he'll have to work with!
