POLL: The Great Spoiler Debate!

POLL: The Great Spoiler Debate!

Always taking the pulse of our members, CBM wants to ask YOU what your feelings are about spoilers.

By ComicBookMovie - May 25, 2011 01:05 PM EST
Filed Under: Other

We've got a raging debate on the site today over posting spoilers. How do you REALLY feel? Let us know below...

Note: We didn't include a 3rd option because we want to know one way or another whether you read spoilers or NOT. Answer honestly and if you need to clarify, use the comments section below. Also, this is NOT a debate about HOW spoilers are posted on CBM. It is strictly asking, "DO YOU READ SPOILERS".

It's really not that big of a deal. You guys act like you're surprised Hugh "I only wear wifebeaters" Jackman is in Photoshop Class. Tsk tsk.

I don't see the problem posting spoilers on this site, they just don't need to be given away by the title of the article and the picture that is attached to the article. That way people who want to be spoiled can and those who don't won't be. ;)

Aye, what Vermillion said. The whole point is having the choice, by posting the spoiler in the headline that choice is taken away. You can please everyone by just posting the article with a less spoilerific headline, and let those who want to click on it click on it.

im like this........if youre interested in seeing / reading the spoiler, then cool. If not, dont complain..move on and ignore it.

But on the other hand, if its headlined on the splash with the spoiler revealed, then thats not fair to those that want to wait for the movie to come out to see it
selinakyle
selinakyle - 5/25/2011, 1:58 PM
What Vermillion said. Don't take away a person's choice to view/not view said spoiler by revealing it in a headline.

marvel72 - 5/25/2011, 1:58 PM
maybe wording it better something like "cameo revealed in x-men first class" not "wolverine cameo in x-men first class."

with all the tv spots alot of spoilers are already being shown.

how long before we see the wolverine cameo in a tv spot.

captain america sort of got it right not showing us anything, but i do need to see a second trailer.

Well if you don't like spoilers...

Don't read 'em or watch them...

Simple. :P

MARVEL72 @ WOLVERINE in FIRST CLASS sucks anyway!

FOX ain't got no faith in the project thats why he's got that cameo.

Uhm lee that's not the topic or point being discussed here. We are talking about revealing spoilers in a title/headline.If a person doesn't want to read said spoiler then they bypass the article. If the spoiler is blasted in the headline, then they really dont have a choice now do they?
BIGBMH
BIGBMH - 5/25/2011, 2:02 PM
I'd like to emphasize part of what Ror said.

"You can please everyone"

I read the note and I realize this is not a debate on how to post spoilers, but really that's the main issue. Whether or not there are more people on this site who like spoilers should be irrelevant to making it a place that both spoiler lovers and haters can come.

I hate spoilers but if you check these forums enough you'll hear about them even if you didn't intend to... best to read about them on your own terms, than to have someone accidentally ruin it 4 you...
BRandom
BRandom - 5/25/2011, 2:02 PM
@LEEE777 Why does a wolverine cameo suck?

BAck to topic. aslong as the spoiler isnt in the title and there is a warning, i dont see the problem

Just dont put the spoiler in the headline ! im fine with that , gives me the option to open the link at my own risk or not!

I think spoilers are great. They give you a taste of what is in the film and sometimes something to look forward to if they are done well. Just because you know it is there does not mean that it will not be enjoyable on the screen.
selinakyle
selinakyle - 5/25/2011, 2:08 PM
Josh W had nothing to do with a spoiler being revealed in the title. His original article had a SPOILER ALERT which meant you were viewing said article at your own risk. So no, dont lay this at Josh's door.

I HATE spoilers, 90% of the time i don't read them, however, I feel this is DEFINITELY the place to have them.

I don't understand all the b!tching, as long as spoilers are marked, I don't see a problem. That's probably because, i'm.....ya know, RATIONAL.

This...This right here is why people make fun of comic book geeks. Jesus, boys. You don`t like it, don`t interact with it. Its like eating a hamburer and bitching the whole time that you hate hamburgers. Except in this case, the hamburgers are like, a picture of a hammer at the end of a movie. Is this really all you have in your life?

My vote is - I don't care because I have other things in my life and learning that Wolverine is in XMen First Class before I see it won't drive me to suicide.
marvel72
marvel72 - 5/25/2011, 2:11 PM
@ leee777

i agree mate,he shouldn't be in it.

but there are users that don't want to know soon as they enter the site.

i'd pissed if it was for something i didn't want to know about.

for example the avengers villain announcement is fine, but major spoilers that say could lead into the sequel should carry a warning.

not be told with a photo in the headline.
JackBauer
JackBauer - 5/25/2011, 2:14 PM
Sometimes I like spoilers and sometimes I don't. It just depends on the movie. I want to be able to pick which articles I read especially if they hint at a major spoiler. If it's in the headline then it's a done deal. I don't care what I read or see about First Class, but the article about Mjolnir in the IM2 after credits pissed me off because a pic of it was on Main.

Just don't post the spoiler in the title (or pic) of the article on Main and that solves the problem.

This debate is sounding more and more like the debates between abortion and gay marriage. I'm glad this site is letting people vote and what not to get the majority answer. Then again no matter which side wins, there will always be people who lose. I'm sorry but this will end badly for everyone. If we vote that we love spoilers, there will be no safe gaurds against it. But if we vote that we don't, then it may be bad in the long run due to less traffic knowing that if they come here there will be less interesting news. Maybe I'm wrong
Talontd
Talontd - 5/25/2011, 2:15 PM
Ahhhh, so someone put a spoiler in a title, huh?

Hahaha, that sux!

P.S.- I love those spoilers that you have to highlight to read.....makes me feel like James Bond, lol.

Thanks Selina. :)

I think everyone feels differentely about spoilers...personally, I'm not too bothered (I read the novelisation of Iron Man 2 before seeing the movie for example) and often find they heighten my anticipation. For example, knowing you-know-who is in X-Men: First Class has me all the more excited.

However, not everyone feels this way, and I know many people who even avoid TV spots so there are as many surprises as possible when they see the movie in the cinema. In order to keep everyone happy from now on, and avoid any upset or bad feelings, it might be a good idea to be a little more careful about how they're revealed and give people more of a choice when it comes to finding out.
selinakyle
selinakyle - 5/25/2011, 2:18 PM
The fact is, this isn't a debate about SPOILERS on this site, its about how you report said spoilers. By having a disclaimer, you are solving 2 issues.
1. those who are interested can click on the article and read said spoiler
2. those who are not interested in knowing what the spoiler is can decide if they want to click or not.

Problem solved! Its not brain surgery or rocket science. This is one of those situations that is very black and white and everybody wins. Coming here to complain about people complaining about spoilers in the headline doesn't make you any better than them.

It's okay to give spoilers just as long as it is true and that you give warning beforehand that it is a spoiler.

@Galactus
ok look i really like spoilers sometimes its fun and i love this site , but i hate it when its not my choice to get spoiled for example today on the homepage it revealed the Wolverine cameo on Xmen Firs class , i did not choose to know that and that has happened to me several times on this site and i feel that you Galactus with all your cosmic powers should do something about it
thanks.

Solomon - 5/25/2011, 2:23 PM
SelinaKyle is right, it is easy! just give people the chance to decide if they want to read spoiler or not. Don't spoil it in the title and put a Spoiler Alert in front of it so everybody can decide if the want to see them or not and nobody gets hurt...
