The upcoming relaunch of the DC universe has been met with criticism and praise in equal measure. Many are glad that they'll be erasing much of the convoluted continuity, while other longtime fans are livid at some of the changes this will result in. (Oracle once again donning the mantle of Batgirl for example) Recently though, and since the reboot that's not really a reboot was announced, there's been some talk about whether or not Marvel should do the same. Many quite rightly point out that Marvel will be keeping a very close eye on how all this works for DC, while they've surely noticed the huge amount of orders for Justice League #1. I asked you guys what you would think about them "pulling a DC" and the answer was pretty definitive...

First of all, it´s unnecessary, besides "Ultimate Universe" is there for this kind of stunt, like killing spiderman, making Galactus a bee hive, etc.

No way , marvel doesn't need that , but they should stop killing characters , and bringing them back !

The Ultimate line has been "rebooted" but not how we think of movies. It's always been more of a relaunch rather than a complete remake. Think Tron/Tron Legacy rather than Halloween(Carpenter)/Halloween(Zombie)

@tracydavis001

I know right? Who cares about a cliffhanger anymore where a main character dies when you know they're just going to resurface in a year or so anyway. It was the last shred of credibility left with Bucky Barnes & Jason Todd. I'm surprised Jim Gordon's wife hasn't been ret-conned yet.

Marvel already did it with Spider-Man and Brand New Day - which was just a slap in the face to all the fans who'd be sticking with the comics and watching the character progress and grow.

These are just the first five to pop into my head; took me a minute to find photos...

What about the whole Ben Reilly debacle back in the 90's? The whole "Werewolf by Night" from the 70's was pretty silly too. Not to mention any work that Rob Liefeld did in the 90's all but made appreciate the crayon drawings m daughter did.

Marvel's made some boners as well, tho DC isn't as guilt free, either.

An active push to digital media is the way to go. As for doing a mass-relaunch? I don't think it's necessary.
That's not to say I wouldn't support it. :)

DC looks to cash in.... if they knew how to write great stories there is no need start from the beginning, new readers should be able to jump on a series from the start of a story arc, basically they need to make up the money they lost on Green Lantern lol

maybe not the whole universe but i would like to see x-men get a fresh start, I've been trying to follow them for ages but it's just too bloody confusing with all the different titles and name changes.

I'll give re:genesis a go but with it being 8 different books i can see me getting easily lost again.

i feel like they should cut out some of the stupid useless stories, too many universes and story lines happening at once, it's confusing as hell

@ReverendJonnyNemo Those are the background Marvel Z-list characters and they are downright goofy. Marvel A-listers are fine. Cap is cool for a Golden Age boyscout. Thor is downright badass mofo. Hulk is a scary monster. Iron Man is an ever-updating technological marvel. Spidey is family friendly mascot. Something for everyone.

@DrewHLMW:
I feel that. I think they just wrote themselves in to a corner over the last few decades by creating too many characters. Really, if they all just formed one team of X-Men using the X-characters they'd be a small army at this point.
ScionStorm
ScionStorm - 8/31/2011, 1:58 AM
lol Of course Marvel doesn't need a reboot. They did pretty good job integrating so much of the publishing history into the universe, giving it a rich history through the ages where you can find interesting characters from almost any era of their comics. And they made their parallel/alternate universes significant to the main universe. X-Men has gotten all over the place lately, and Avengers is starting to follow suit. But that doesn't mean a reboot is needed. It just means Marvel needs to direct it's focus better.

Couldn't DC just create an Exiles team to fix their timelines? ;P

Ichaos - 8/31/2011, 4:46 AM
The ultimate line was the smarter way to do a reboot thats not a reboot. Dc should done the same.
