Well it's been a relatively slow and boring news day and I found this and thought you guys might enjoy it. It's Ryan Reynolds' introduction featured in the upcoming novel 'Green Lantern: Secret Origins'.

'Green Lantern: Secret Origins' was written by Geoff Johns and illustrated by Ivan Reis. The novel will be available for purchase on April 12,2011 and will cost $13.50 for the hardcover edition.

"I was never an expert on Hal Jordan. I’d always known the basic gist of the character: I knew he wore a lot of green. Had a ring possessed of infinite power bestowed upon him by a dying alien. And I knew he’s survived many successors and wildly diverse iterations over an astonishing multi-decade run. If you like sports analogies, he’s the New York Yankees. Lately though, I’ve gotten to know the guy pretty damn well. Like Hal Jordan, I too was given the gift of a ring. Mine was more symbolic in its power but no less auspicious. I was asked to put that ring on and bring Hal Jordan to life in a whole new form: Film. Not a job I take lightly.

About a year and a half ago, I first sat down with Martin Campbell, Donald DeLine, and a man whom I consider responsible for the resurgent interest in Green Lantern, Geoff Johns. They were all eager to build a big screen superhero who would both live up to his lengthy legacy, yet simultaneously find a foothold with a whole new audience--young and old alike. Hal Jordan was about to become a living, breathing person. And I was going to be the guy to do it. No pressure...

True fans of Hal Jordan know the caliber of hero we’re talking about. From the moment I came aboard, I saw the challenge and opportunity in creating a classic yet modern day hero who can throw a punch, tell a joke, and kiss the girl. I saw the guy as a cross between Chuck Yeager and Han Solo. The Green Lantern saga is so limitless in its scope, I’m sure it was a relief for the writers to know it was going to be an origin story of sorts. They need look no further than the starting point.

Green Lantern encompasses a seemingly limitless supply of adventure: fighter jets, space travel, action, aliens, betrayal, humor, tragedy, heroes, villains, and even a rather complicated little love story. These are just a few ingredients, which have been a part of this epic for over 50 years.

It’s a great time to be a superhero fan. Technology is such that bringing Green Lantern to life properly is finally possible. Creating energy constructs based upon infinite will and pure imagination can vividly appear before our very eyes. This technological leap also happened to coincide with a time period in which the world is fascinated by big screen comic book adaptations.

Preparing to get Hal up and running in living color was helped greatly by this book, Secret Origin, illustrated beautifully by Ivan Reis, who I had the pleasure of meeting on the set in New Orleans. This book basically gave me the introduction I was looking for in order to begin the incredible ascent to Oa. I hope you like it.

--Ryan Reynolds

Gotta get this one...already have the comics, but I'm hoping Ryan on the cover will entice my wife to read it:) It seems like a great way to help those non-"insiders" get to know the character before the movie. Thanks again to Ryan, Geoff and all the awesome people who made this awesome movie a reality. This is a long time coming for us GL fans and comic fans in general.

bobiketsuzumaki:

He "misses the point" just because he does not cover every facet that YOU think constitutes the Green Lantern comics? God, he could wax poetic for hours about what he thinks the comics are about and if he misses one description, the fanboys tear him to shreds. This is why it's best to not try to cater to the fanboys at every turn.

Sounds like he's saying he was less concerned about making sure the GL part was perfect (since ultimately that's up to the director and the CGI houses) and more about perfecting Hal Jordan. I can get behind that. And I think his interpretation of Hal being a mix of Chuck Yeager and Han Solo is spot on. I seriously hope this movie is awesome!

Secret Origins is an epic graphic novel. It's in my all time favorites list. I was happy to hear they will be incorporating it into the film.

I think RR is going to surprise us with his acting & this is going to be the big one this year. It definitely has more scope than the CBM's coming out this year, IMO.

Star Wars of CBM's is what I hope it is. :D

I have a good feeling about GL. WB has to be pleased with the way it's turning out or they wouldn't have started working on the script for GL2 already, or at least I like to think that's why.

Nice, I just bought Superman: Secret Origins written by Geoff Johns cause the rumor is the Zach Snyder Superman reboot is bringing in many elements from that newest iteration origin story along with Birthright.

I'll have to check out GL: Secret Origins as well. Just finally read Blackest Night and Geoff Johns really knows how to capture comic book characters. And yes i'm late to the party, only started really reading comics recently, I only grew up on all the DC and Marvel animated shows from the 90s, never really actually read comicbooks until recently.

Ryan surely seems to genuinely be grateful for assuming the responsibility of bringing this amazing story to life. And with that alone i know he is going to give it his all. i can even sense a strong interest in gl from him, almost as strong as ours. Well only the production will tell all, and by the look of things, it's gonna be amazing..

ONLY THREE MORE MONTHS!!!
