The Future of the MCU

The Future of the MCU

Once The Avengers have assembled and Iron Man concludes and Thor has another epic adventure, when should the next additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe be introduced?

*Disclaimer* This is no longer happening due to the announcement of two secret Marvel projects in 2014

There are heaps of new projects Marvel are planning to venture on post-Avengers, including War-Machine, Black Widow and Hawkeye spin-offs, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, another Punisher reboot, Black Panther and the Inhumans - as well as the possibility of an Incredible Hulk sequel and a Captain America sequel in development. One thing I've never understood and most Marvel fans question this is: why are Marvel films strictly summer fare? I reckon if X-Men 2 was released in late 2002 as planned (although the script would've suffered big time) we'd be seeing a lot more Marvel films released later in the year. Therefore, there should be three maximum each summer and one later in the year (summer gets more as there are more weekends whereas fall isn't quite as competitive) This is how I believe the timeline should play out between 2012 and 2016 which is when the next Avengers movie should come out.

2012

THE AVENGERS
May 4

2013

IRON MAN 3
May 3

THOR 2
July 26

THE INCREDIBLE HULK 2
November 15

2014

ANT-MAN
May 2

CAPTAIN AMERICA 2
June 6

HAWKEYE
July 18

BLACK WIDOW
November 14

2015

THOR 3
May 1

WAR MACHINE

DR STRANGE

BLACK PANTHER

2016

THE AVENGERS 2
May 6

INHUMANS
July 15

PUNISHER
November 11

I really hope that Marvel gets it right having so many productions in development and they should choose their teams wisely. The fact that there are so many they are willing to embark could be the death of these movies, but if they find the right people to take helm of each of these films, the results will be extraordinary.

I would definitely not want to wait until 2015 for Dr. Strange and Black Panther movies.
And if anything, I would think Avengers 2 would be 2014 or 2015.

Dane - 2014 is way too soon for a production for that stature, and concluding the current MCU threads should happen before new ones are introduced.

I think they should take at least 2 years before a second Avengers film. So 2015 sounds good. I haven't heard anything about a IH sequel. Three have been confirmed and 2 (Ant Man and Doctor Strange are in development) Then they are also considering a Guardians of the Galaxy film. You didn't mention that but you mentioned films that Marvel isn't even looking into at the moment and placed them before movies that actually are working on a script.

If you have Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 for 2013. And you get Ant Man and Black Panther for 2014, you could have enough threads to set up an Avengers 2 for late 2014 early 2015. Not to mention a possible thread after the first Avengers movie. And it only takes about a year to film, so if you film back to back with Avengers or soon after, you can have it done fairly quickly. Just my 2-cents.

They do have a lot in development and Marvel sounds pretty determined to get it out there soon. All the projects listed are projects Marvel are actually working on.

wow - thats quite an ambitious schedule.

If you think how much each film would cost on average (about $150 million) and a risk of oversaturation (remember other studios will want to release their CBMs too) then I think Marvel Studios would go bust in about 5 years!!

nice list but i think we'll see dr.strange either in 2013 or 2014 not as late as 2015.also iron man 3 maybe the last or marvel might decide to continue the franchise.

I doubt whether they'll do hawkeye & widow solo movies. A more realistic schedule would be;

2012
The Avengers
*amazing spiderman*
(hulk tv show debuts)

2013
*wolverine*
Thor 2
Ironman 3

2014
Ant-man
Captain America 2
Dr.Strange
*x-men first class sequel*
*fantastic four reboot*
*amazing spiderman 2*

2015
Black Panther
Avengers 2
Inhumans

2016
Agents of Shield
Guardians of the Galaxy
Heroes for Hire

2017
Dr.Strange 2
Captain America 3
*fantastic four 2*
*spiderman 3*

2018
Avengers 3
*x-men 3*

Scion is right.

They havent even mentioned that they're making a War Machine, Hawkeye, or Black Widow movie. (and i highly doubt they will.)

Yet they've already announced development on Dr Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy.

@ MrAnonymous The rights to both Punisher and Blade reverted to Marvel. So now they can be in MCU, if Marvel so chooses.

BC Punisher has really sucked. They even failed at the reboot..

I don't think that making Black Widow, Hawkeye, War Machine, or even a SHIELD movie would ever work they are all just supporting characters and personally I think a SHIELD movie sounds boring since it would be Avengers without Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, and Cap and that's what the GA would see
