IGN has posted their list of the Top 100 Comic Book Villains and I was rather surprised at who ended up in the number one slot. I have posted the Top 10, but the entire list is rather intriguing to read, as they give some pretty good explanations. Here are your Top 10:

10- Kingpin

9- Dark Phoenix

8- Loki

7- Ra's Al Ghul

6- Darkseid

5- Galactus (All hail the great and powerful one!)

4- Lex Luthor

3- Doctor Doom

2- Joker

1- Magneto

From IGN: "...the archenemy of Charles Xavier has proven over the decades that he's not only worthy of his infamous status, but worthy of a much greater accolade - being the greatest villain ever created. The Master of Magnetism doesn't just operate well along stereotypical bad guy parameters, but can actually sustain engaging, masterful storylines of his own."

"Magneto has become bigger than his peers and virtually all of his enemies. It's the sign of a great character when his presence dominates a story and his absence creates a vacuum that cannot be filled by any other. Through his legendary role in Marvel Comics over the years as well as fantastic portrayals in film and animation, it's hard to argue that there has ever been a villain more complex, nuanced, sympathetic and yet irrevocably evil."

ecksmanfan: I was actually expecting to either see Joker or Lex Luthor in the number one spot. While I like Magneto, I'm debating with myself if he deserves the number one spot.

What say you?

read this on IGN few weeks back and was a little disappointed.
i was honestly thinking that Galactus, Ra's al Ghul, or Doom would get the number one spot.
Galactus is a force of nature who doesn't give a crap about other beings. he just wants some food and to properly manage a modest website.
Ra's is practically immortal and he just wants to fix the world in the fastest way possible: by killing everyone!
and then there is Doom. he has diplomatic immunity, he's a sorcerer, and he's a scientific genius! just roll Reed Richards, Stephen Strange, and Ivan the Terrible into one person and you get DOOM!

that's my opinion.

Yeah i would see Magneto being #1 I recall the comic ultimatum, i never read it but it did seem badass, a poster i have on my office wall (home office) shows magneto sitting in a chair with thor's hammer next to him and reads " When god didn't like what he created, he washed it all away in 40 days and night's...... i will do it in three!"

@Wadey I think the reason why big G is not number 1 is because he is a force of the Universe neither Good nor Evil only reason he does what he does is because for sustenance. Doom I would put into the number 1 going defnitely.

@Gambit That was an awesome pic but however the story was not that great. Magnus is not the baddass he was right now in the comics he is taking orders from Cyclops.

Magneto is not what I would refer to as evil. He is a mutant terrorist and he does not care if there are casualties in the war for the survival of mutant kind. Especially if those casualties are homo sapient. SolidSnake is right about Galactus. He is also not "evil". He is a god-like entity that feeds off planets. His intentions are not evil, but the outcome is always disastrous and the casualties are usually in the millions because of the level of devastation he causes. Dr. Doom or Joker should have been number one. Apocalypse should have been number 2. Unreal2k9 is also right. Norman Osborn should have also been up there. He's one crazy F#CK!!!
