Deadline report that the Son of Anarchy himself, Charlie Hunnam, has been lined up to star as the good King Arthur Pendragon in Guy Ritchie's take on the legendary tale, which is now officially titled Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur. Apparently Hunnam is now in final negotiations, and a deal looks like a sure thing. The project also has CBM fave and Hunnam's Pacific Rim costar Idris Elba on board, and although the Thor: The Dark World actor was originally said to be playing a character called Bedivere, Deadline reckon it'll actually be Merlin the Wizard! The site also confirm that WB are planning a six film saga. There have been various movies, comics and tv shows based around Arthurian legend over the years, including the underrated Camelot and the mediocre Disney produced flick with Clive Owen in the title role. The most successful take was arguably John Boorman's Excalibur back in 1981. Akiva Goldsman and Tory Tunnell will produce, Joby Harold (Awake, Edge Of Tomorrow) is on script duty. The movie is set for a July 22, 2016 release.

UPDATE: According to Variety, Elizabeth Olsen is also in negotiations for the female lead (presumably Guinevere). They also mention that both Henry Cavill and Jai Courtney read for the Arthur role.

Charlie Hunnam is a horrible actor. Pacific Rim is cringeworthy because of his constant fuuuckups

Dude is an awesome actor. It was the Pacific Rim script that made him look bad. I am going to miss Sons of Anarchy when it ends.

To be fair in a film like Pacific Rim nobody should have been expected to turn in amazing performances.

I think he would have made a good Aquaman. Has the look, decent actor, and has isn't well known beside SOA.

@SuperCat

And it seems like that's all that GDT intended it to be. It was meant to be rather mindless action packed film, not some outstanding character piece or story driven film.

I am so sick of Jai Courtney, sure he was good in Spartacus but if you want to talk about an incompetent actor he's your man. Him or Sam Worthington.

Ohhh Elizabeth Olsen as Guinevere! Wonder who's going to be Lancelot then? Personally, I think Charlie Hunnam is more suited for Lancelot.

Sorry, just can't stand the guy..his walk even annoys me. Granted nobody came outta Pacific Rim looking very good, but he was the worst. I honestly laughed out loud at some of his narration.
