Why Haven't we Seen a Crossover CBM by Now?

The Avengers is going to come out next year and I'm sure many are exited. But,why hasn't there been a crossover CBM yet?

I'm sure you all want to see a live action Superman/Batman movie. Or where Marvel and D/C meet up,and then start pounding each other? This might even lead to a Agalam Comics movie. This is where Marvel and D/C characters are combined. Why hasn't Spider-man met up with his best friend,The Human Torch? I think it's all because of budget. There just isn't enough money. But the Avengers is going to have 6 people on the team. 4 of which will have CGI. 1 WILL be pure CGI. But, there is another reason, and that is too much character development. Too many people in the movie. Too many characters. The movie is only 2 hours long. Thats not enough time to develop 6 characters. But I think Marvel can pull it off. Maybe, if the Avengers succeeds,we could see Superman and Batman fighting together in live action. The fate of crossover CBM's lies in the hands of The Avengers.

aliens vs predator started as a comic book first, maybe that could be classed as a comic book movie crossover.

We haven't seen crossovers because different companies own the film rights to the characters. Spider-Man is owned by Columbia/Sony. Fox owns X-Men, Daredevil, and the Fantastic Four. Marvel owns Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, and any other character not owned by another studio. These companies would never want to share profit to make crossover movies, and WB is just gun shy about doing so with DC characters. Marvel is the only studio to show real balls and create the kind of crossover universe that comics represent. Basically, unless it comes from Marvel or DC, we'll never see crossover films.

you say that 2 hours isn't enough time for all the characters too have developed. no shit, thats why they have had their own solo movies to intorduce themselves to the audience.

What about them meeting, arguing, and working together JBatesyFilmreviews! And Hawkeye hasn't had a movie. Black Widow did almost nothing in Iron Man 2

I say no to a Superman/Batman film. Oh and try making your editorials at least 3 paragraphs. Expand upon what you have, and go in depth on things. Also, when you have a coordinating conjunction such as For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, or So connecting two independent clauses (clauses that could be their own sentences even if they don't have coordinating conjunctions) then you put a coma instead of a period in front of the conjunction. You don't capitalize the conjunction.

@comiccow6 you think that the meeting of the superheroes needs longers than say 35 minutes, I don't and Hawkeye isn't a main he doesnt need as much character development as the others, eg hulk, cap, iron man and thor, oh wait they've already had solo films to develop their characters. nuff said.

Don't expect it to happen with DC anytime soon.

@JBatesyFilmreviews: In all fairness, audiences shouldn't have to see all five of the previous films to understand The Avengers. Don't get me wrong, I think Marvel should be able to pull this off. I'm just trying to be fair.

There was a Batman vs Superman movie in the works many years ago, but was later scrapped. Also, around 06 or 07, there was a JLA movie in the works with Routh returning as Superman and Bale returning as Batman. That was scrapped because of the low gross for Returns and because TDK was in development.

@golden123 I understand but I just couldn't imagine people, who aren;t into comics walking into the cinema to watch the avengers and understanding who everyone is also the five films before is a fantastic marketing idea as well as more films for us fans

SeaSerpentine @ it was actually the writers strike that ruined the JLA movie. They never intended on using Routh or Bale for the movie, they had a new cast for the JLA members and even a few sets built when they cancelled due to the strike.

Marvel DC crossovers wouldn't happen in movies, it's to strange a concept even in comics. As for a marvel crossover before avengers, it's all about the film rights. As for DC, they just didn't want to take any risks by introducing characters like Flash.

@SKGannbit Sorry, I was thinking about a different proposed JLA movie and I must have gotten certain details mixed up. It's been a while since I read the original article.
