BOX OFFICE: RED 2 And R.I.P.D. Top Open At #4 And #7; PACIFIC RIM Drops To #6

The Conjuring looks set for a solid weekend at the box office, but everything else? Not so much. Hit the jump for details on how big new releases like Red 2 and R.I.P.D. are set to perform this weekend as well as an update on Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim.

With a lot of comic book fans glued to their laptops for Comic-Con updates or actually at the event in San Diego, it looks set to be a pretty quiet weekend at the North American box office. However, that may have more to do with how uninterested the majority seem to be in these two movies! Red 2 has a decent enough 'B+' CinemaScore, so it could perform a little better than expected, but lousy reviews and a 'C+' score for R.I.P.D. mean that it looks set to be the latest big budget 2013 flop. The main reason that it looks set to be such a disaster is down to the ridiculously high budget as it cost over $150 million (after production rebates). Meanwhile, Pacific Rim may now end up eventually reaching $100 million domestically, but it's going to have to perform VERY well overseas if it hopes to be anything other than a disappointment for Warner Bros.
