Based on Friday's North American box office numbers, Universal Pictures' Lucy is set to earn between $42M to $44M in its opening weekend. The sci-fi actioner stars Scarlett Johansson ("Captain America: The Winter Soldier") and was directed by Luc Besson ("Léon: The Professional"). This will be the best opening weekend for a film starring Scarlett Johansson that wasn't produced by Marvel Studios. It will also be the best opening weekend for a film directed by Luc Besson. His previous best was $17M for The Fifth Element. However, the film was not well received by audiences as they only gave it a 'C+' CinemaScore.

Paramount and MGM's Hercules will finish in second with $28M to $30M. It stars Dwayne Johnson in the title role. If the numbers stay about the same this will be the 8th best opening for a movie starring The Rock, just ahead of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island ($27M opening)This will also mark the 3th best opening for a Brett Ratner-directed film just behind his original Rush Hour film, which opened to $33M in 1998. Audiences seemed to enjoy the film more than Lucy as they gave it a  'B+' CinemaScore.

In its third weekend, 20th Century Fox's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will come in third with $16M to $17M. The film is $30M shy of the coveted $200M domestic mark.

From La Femme Nikita and The Professional to The Fifth Element, writer/director Luc Besson has created some of the toughest, most memorable female action heroes in cinematic history. Now, Besson directs Scarlett Johansson in Lucy, an action-thriller that tracks a woman accidentally caught in a dark deal who turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic. Lucy also stars Academy Award® winner Morgan Freeman and is produced by Virginie Besson-Silla for EuropaCorp. Universal Pictures will distribute the movie worldwide, except for France, Benelux and China.

I find it odd that nobody's pushing for a Hawkeye film, the guy gets no shine whatsoever.

the box office numbers are not because of scarlet Johansen. So stop asking for a black widow film. Why would anyone want to see that is what i dont understand. she works well when paired in a bigger comic book character movie. she was great in cap 2. The reason the box office numbers are huge is because of the whole concept of Lucy and the marketing behind it. the trailers were great and the media has been buzzing about it. The movie sucks though.

I'd love a Hawkeye movie, but considering he really hasn't gotten the chance to show off his character. They need to put him in a team-up movie or be awesome in Avengers 2, and show off his personality that reflect him more so in the main 616 universe do that I can see people discussing the notion of a Hawkeye movie or at the very least they could do West Coast Avengers (Especially with Bobbi heading into Agents of Shield).

I just hope Hawkeye doesn't get the shaft (pun intended) in the movie universe.

@FearTheLiving Agreed. My problem is they had a chance to put him in the Cap 2 movie, but instead they gave it to Black Widow who was already in Ironman 2. She did a great job, but that shine could of went to Hawkeye. Hopefully he becomes very usefull in Aou.

After this showing I can see Marvel giving Johansson her own movie (maybe she'll be paired up with Hawkeye). Heck, she just beat The Rock in the Box Office! DC's future Shazam got beat by Black Widow! Do it Marvel! Make the first successful female superhero movie!

Kinda makes you wonder who would do better at the box office, a stand alone black window movie? or the shazam movie.

I think a BW movie would be pointless now, she works much better when she has others to play off of like Cap and Falcon and if the Infinity Gauntlet is the premise of A3 then its better to build up the big guns for that instead of wasting time with small fry *looks over to Ant-Man*

I have not seen either of the films, but I have not heard good things from those who have. I will probably catch them when they are free on Netflix or Amazon Prime.
