Deadline is reporting that Sony Pictures has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to Here, an upcoming movie adaptation of the acclaimed Richard McGuire graphic novel of the same name, from Miramax.

Miramax still holds the film's international rights, but will be presenting the package to potential buyers in Cannes later this month.

The film will reunite the entire Oscar-winning Forrest Gump team of director Robert Zemeckis and screenwriter Eric Roth as well as stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright. This will be the first time since the film's 1994 release that all four have worked together.

Sony is eyeing a theatrical release for the film and are planning on it being a major awards player come the 2023 season, which shouldn't really come as a surprise considering the talent involved.

The project is described as "a breathtaking and revolutionary odyssey through time and memory. The innovative story is centered around a place in New England where from wilderness, and then, later, a home – love, loss, struggle, hope and legacy play out between couples and families over generations."

Here was originally published in 1989 in Raw Volume 2 #1 as a six-page comic strip, before McGuire turned it into a full-sized 300-page, full-color graphic novel in December 2014.

Production is scheduled to begin in September.

The graphic novel is beautiful and really takes advantage of the medium. I really struggle to see how a film adaptation would work at all without sacrificing a lot of what makes it so special. Good creative team though

I highly recommend the Forrest Gump episode of Netflix's "The Movies That Made Us". It was an interesting look into the film's history.

I'll be honest, the last Zemeckis movie I really like is Cast Away. Still, I'm willing to give it a chance. His movies atleast always have a unique perspective
