1998's GODZILLA Gets An Honest Trailer

With the new Godzilla headed to theaters this weekend it seems about right for Screen Junkies to release an "Honest Trailer" for Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin's Godzila.

Following the French atomic bomb tests in the South Pacific, an unknown creature is spotted passing westward through the Panama Canal. Scientist Niko Tatopolous is called in to investigate the matter, and he quickly arrives at the conclusion that a giant, irradiated lizard has been created by the explosions. Godzilla then makes its way north, landing at Manhattan to begin wreaking havoc in the big city. Even with the combined forces of the U.S. military to fight the monster, will it be enough to save the people of New York?

Actors: Matthew Broderick, Jean Reno, Maria Pitillo & Hank Azaria
Director: Roland Emmerich * Screenwriters: Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin

It's really not that bad as long as you can FF through all of the scenes with the blonde in them. It's popcorn and kinda fun.

Ha ha ha. That was a great Honest Trailer.

To this very day, it's the only so-called Godzilla film that is not in my collection.

The CGI was not only dated at the time of it's release, but it was also unfinished. Check out some of the scenes when Godzilla is chasing the taxicab through the city. You can literally see blue spots on Godzilla's scales if you pause it in certain scenes.

Godzilla 98 was blue tinted btw. And the CGI was fantastic for its time. I guess winning a Saturn award means nothing?
