Neill Blomkamp Shares New Concept Art For His ALIEN Movie

Chappie director Neill Blomkamp has taken to Instagram to post another piece of concept art for his Alien project, once again featuring older versions of Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and Hicks (Michael Biehn). He also offers an update on the movie's progress...

Neill Blomkamp drummed up a lot of excitement when it was announced that he'd be getting to work on an Alien project that would resurrect both Sigourney Weaver's Ripley and Michael Biehn's Hicks, and act as more of a direct sequel to James Cameron's Aliens than "Alien 5". Then, Chappie came out. The movie had its share of fans of course, but the general consensus was that it wasn't the director's best work (by a wide margin) and anticipation for his Alien flick seemed to lessen somewhat. Fortunately Blomkamp himself doesn't seem deterred, posting the image below along with the caption “#alien going very well. Love this project.”

Ripley, Hicks and some new characters speaking to a Colonial Marine type there. We still have no idea how Blomkamp is planning to bring these two back from the dead, or if he's simply going to pretend the last two movies never happened. Whatever is decided that'll probably wind up being the yet-to-be-announced screenwriter's problem. Ridley Scott will produce the film, which is aiming for a 2017 release.

This could be awesome (like the Mad Max reboot) or it could be absolute garbage (like the new Terminator.) But there's reason to be hopeful because I like most of Blomkamp's movies and I love his aesthetic.

Really hope this is better than Chappie...yeah it had cool action scenes, but I can't believe how many plot holes this movie had. It's like they went into production with a really shady first draft.

I'd rather watch a Prometheus sequel. Neil Blumpkin hasn't made a half-decent movie since District 9.

Blomkamp does have a great aesthetic. I'd just rather him not write the story. It's what's best.

I'm done with this shit, Blomhack just ignoring Alien 3 -assembly cut-, my favorite Alien movie an a masterpiece, in favor of fan-fiction, seems like he's not smart enough to figure out a better story than just wipe out the last 2 movies, [frick] that shit

Folks we're going to need to be EXTRA patient with uncle @Gusto today.

He's had some bad news. He was all set to get the band back together but old grudges die hard.
Turns out in the eleventh hour Boy George has blocked him from the CULTURE CLUB reunion!
And he is right regular pee-yissed off.

And who can blame him? How can this be a "reunion" without the original slide-whistle player?!
Looks -I- am saving my concert money for Night Ranger.

I´m hoping to see the ALIENS homeplanet in an Alien movie.

If this Neill Blomkamp guy continue to follow this trend, we´ll just have a low budget horror movie set in a generic slum with no sense of futuristic wonder whatsoever.

What´s the point in ignoring ALIEN 3 if you show no signs of making it better?

I have adblock and I can still see the pic. You can click on Blomkamp's account to see in there anyway if it's not showing up.

Anyway, I also liked certain things about Alien 3 and 4, but they [frick]ed up a lot of stuff and weren't a patch on the first 2.

Chappie was alright but I think it could have been better with more competent actors. Die Antwood sucked so did Hippo, the guy was putting on a stereotypical 'Black accent' akin to Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's.

The South African local had nothing to do with anything aside from being where Blomkamp and Die Antwood come from. Movies should take you places, I live in Joburg and Chappie didnt feel like Joburg at all even though they used many landmarks. The whole American gangster swag didnt help much either.

I think Neil has great ideas but is not always great at translating them into films. Elysium did nothing for me.

I like all the Alien movies and Prometheus (yes really). I like Alien and Aliens the most though because they are both masterpieces.

Regarding Blomkamp, I've liked all his movies so far. However, District 9 remains his best. One of the best Sci-Fi's of the noughties.

Can't believe he's going to bring Hicks back. I'm really looking forward to seeing the explanation behind the characters resurrection.
