ALIEN VS. PREDATOR TV Series Was Completed Before Disney/Fox Merger But Still Hasn't Been Released

The Xenomorphs and Yautjas may one day share the screen again in live-action, but we've learned there's a completed animated series that, following the Disney/Fox merger, has yet to see the light of day.

When Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, the studio got its hands on a whole host of iconic franchises. Among them are Alien and Predator, and while the House of Mouse has since developed Prey along with an upcoming Alien movie and TV series, there's one project they have which seemingly won't see the light of day.

Talking on the Perfect Organism Podcast (via AnimeMojo.com), Fox's former licensing director, Joshua Izzo, revealed that he headed up an Alien vs. Predator anime series which has yet to see the light of day, even four years after the acquisition was completed.

"There is, sitting at Disney now, at 20th Studios, 10 episodes of a fully completed Alien vs. Predator anime series that I produced," Izzo revealed. "It’s done. It’s in the can. It’s mixed; it’s finished. It was produced and story cracked by Eric Calderon and Dave Baker, two unbelievably crazy talented guys."

Talking about how the project came to be, he added: "I said, 'Hey listen, I want to pitch this idea of a direct-to-DVD Alien and/or Alien/Predator and/or Predator animation that we, the consumer products division, can sell against. Let us be the masters of our own destiny rather than waiting for theatrical whenever a movie decides to come out.'"

Neither Alien Covenant nor The Predator had been released at the time, and it sounds like Shinji Aramaki (Blade Runner: Black Lotus, Halo LegendsStarship Troopers) was going to be at the helm of this crossover series.

Plans called for the series to be set after the events of Alien vs. Predator and Alien 4, with the episodes split across three DVDs as part of a Home Entertainment release. It's also likely that we'd have seen a mixture of 2D and CG animation that was heavily influenced by anime.

As for why Disney has decided against releasing it, there are a number of possibilities. For starters, the studio might have decided it wasn't up to the quality they would like. There may also be rights issues at play, and we can't discount the possibility the studio wants to hold off on any crossovers before pitting the two iconic aliens against each other in another project, animated or otherwise.

I'll give Disney the benefit of the doubt, it's probably because it's a dumpster fire.. But I don't see what they stand to lose from just releasing it.

@Repian - There was one. It was CGI but it's very old and pretty terrible looking now.

@Repian - And you might want to check out the new Starship Troopers game there making.

@Matador - Yeah, it was great for it's time! But the CGI is really hard to watch now.

I think it was called Roughnecks or something like that.

Just release it, man. It can't be any worse than the movies.

The movies weren't great (Requiem is downright awful), but nothing beats seeing both icons clashing on screen for the first time. I'm sure the series will have the same feel.

@MasterMix - Requiem is one of the most cruel, demeaning movies I’ve ever seen. Just straight vicious and callous with zero redeeming qualities and so darkly shot even an OLED tv can’t keep up.

@kg8817 - it was truly one of the worst times I ever had watching a movie. What a horrible way to end the series.

Yeah this is shit that triggers me to no end, movies and shows being finished but not released.
I get that there are financial incentives against this but holy shit what a waste of work!

There’s still a third season of Mortal Kombat Legacy that was finished ahead of MKX but got scrapped after shooting had finished.

@Blergh -

Hold up!

What do you mean, there was a 3rd season that was finished?!?

Are you serious right now??
Blergh
Blergh - 5/24/2023, 2:26 AM
@MahN166A - yes, they shot and wrapped a third season of MK Legacy to promote MKX, the season was titled MKX Generations.

It saw Caspar Van Dien return and Eric Roberts played Raiden.
Funnily enough the actor playing Cole in the new movie played Kenshis son in it.

There’s leaked footage:

As shooting wrapped the show got canned because it was around the time Machinima went bankrupt and couldn’t release it. So instead of selling the material off WB just cut their losses and let’s the footage rot on a harddrive in one of their water towers.

I’ve been trying to get information on how much we’d have to pay to aquire the footage, finish and release it (maybe fund the acquiring via crowdfunding if it’s out of our price range).
To no avail though the closest I got was to a WB licensing employee that said he’d get back to me…that was in 2021.

I’d absolutely volunteer to finish the show for free. I hate finished material sitting unused in some vault somewhere.

This was literally made to sell toys/goods which tbh I'm kind of intrigued about. It's a criticism that's often thrown around, but rarely actually true. I'd be curious to see how they wanted to integrate it all.

I pitched this idea awhile ago but I would like to see more period piece films with the Predator and have each hero get abducted sometime after their victory and put in a cryostasis and have an ensemble film with each survivor thawed out and put in a colosseum planet of sorts to battle Champion Predators as a team. Each survivor would be from different time periods.

Such western sounding names for Japanese people.

Or maybe their use of 'anime' is grossly broad.

And it's even an anime? Think that's a great medium for a show like this. Too bad it's not released then
