AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER Stills Tease What We Can Expect From James Cameron's Watery 3D Epic

While a low-res trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water has, unfortunately, surfaced online in recent days, we have a couple of very cool new stills from the 3D blockbuster highlighting the amazing visuals...

CinemaCon attendees were treated to the first footage from Avatar: The Way of Water, and it was confirmed during the event that the trailer would premiere in front of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Clearly, Disney wants audiences to experience this sneak peek for the first time on a big screen, but with a week to wait before it does debut online, leaks are inevitable.

They have started a little sooner than expected, however.

As of right now, the trailer is available to watch online. While we won't be linking to the bootleg low-res copy, you might want to be aware that it's out there. It's a shame that's how many will experience James Cameron's 3D epic for the first time, and Disney might want to consider an earlier online debut.

In related news, more stills from Avatar: The Way of Water have been revealed and they're nothing short of jaw-dropping. The visuals in this sequel promise to be absolutely insane, and while these shots don't reveal much, we do get to see the level of detail on Sam Worthington's returning Jake.

Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.

Avatar: The Way of Water arrives in theaters worldwide on December 16.

After all the years of him trashing other properties for not being “original” to hype up this bullshit? I hope this movie fails hard.

Am I blind? Because the CGI looks way better than people here are letting on. Maybe it’s carryover distaste from the last movie? Either way, I think it looks pretty good overall.

Man I still not understand so much hate towards Cameron, Did he take your lunch at school or something?
xfactor
xfactor - 5/3/2022, 9:18 AM
@MaxPaint - he shitted on the cbm genre while his recent works have been mediocre despite box office success. This isn’t the James Cameron from the terminator movies anymore, at this point he’s producing highly stylized films with no substance at all anymore.

@xfactor - Why should any of us care if he is vocal about his dislike of super hero movies? We take other people’s opinions way too personal here. It’s no valid reason to find distaste in the guy.
xfactor
xfactor - 5/3/2022, 9:26 AM
@Benjamitesandwich - It is a valid reason, having to try and discredit other works because he felt they’re not “original “ when he hasn’t been on the money with his material lately. And if this movie does fail, he’s going to circle right back again and blame Marvel/DC/Star Wars for over saturation. Gimme Aliens Cameron, The Abyss Cameron, True Lies Cameron. Not this new crap

@Benjamitesandwich - Exactly. Way too many people on here are unwilling to accept anyone's critique of their favorite movies and feel the need to personally attack any artist that doesn't profess their unquestioning love for the MCU.

@xfactor - Whatever comes out of Cameron's mouth is not my problem, even if I disagree with it. As long as the movies he directs are still worth my money in time, I'll gladly give him both.
xfactor
xfactor - 5/3/2022, 9:47 AM
@Fares - that’s my point. I don’t personally feel his product have been up to par recently and those comments regarding the MCU and the Star Wars sequel trilogy were unwarranted imo.

Fares - 5/3/2022, 10:02 AM
@xfactor - His comments aside, which are irrelevent to me personally, it's fair if you don't want to support his films if you don't find them to be good enough.

But I'm not sure what you're referring to when talking about his most recent work. The last feature film he directed is Avatar back in 2009, and Titanic is his second most recent one. Both those movies, and the ones that came before them are considered to be financial and ciritcal successes. So he deserves the benefit of the doubt at least.

Everything else he's done in recent years seems to either be documentaries or producer credits, which has no bearing on his ability as a director.

Many great filmmakers attach their names to crappy movies as producers, and their attachement and contribution to the project can vary greatly from "very significant" to "virtually nothing". But they remain great directors/writers/actors, etc.

I'm not super excited for Avatar 2 as I wasn't the biggest fan of the first. But as I said, I can grant him the benefit of the doubt.

@Fares - I’m sorry, but I just didn’t get the same feeling when I was watching those films. Cameron had a distinctive look and quality to his films that set him apart from other filmmakers (naturally) but avatar and titanic to me were both soulless films that concentrated more on spectacle than on the story. I’ve tried three times watching avatar and all three times I fell asleep
Fares
Fares - 5/3/2022, 10:24 AM
@xfactor - That's totally fair. But if I were in your position, I'd rather keep an open mind, hope to be proven wrong and end up with a surprisingly enjoyable movie than to be proven right and get nothing of value in return.
