BOX OFFICE: Real Steel Heading For A Mid 20 Million Dollar Weekend

Early reports suggest that Real Steel, the robot boxing movie staring Hugh Jackman, will knock out the competition this weekend with a mid 20million dollar first outing.

Hugh Jackman is back this weekend in his upcoming film Real Steel. The movie which puts the focus on robot boxing set in the near future is, according to Deadline, heading towards a 20 million dollar weekend with possibilities that it could reach 30. Real Steel is set to beat out George Clooney's new movie The Ides Of March as well as current number one and family friendly film Dolphin Tale.

These are very early estimates. But DreamWorks/Disney’s Real Steel is dominating the North American box office today and looking at a mid-$20sM weekend if not higher. Hollywood will only be impressed if the result is mid-$30sM because this action pic has a family overlay and its budget was $110+M.

Many had written off Real Steel as a film that they were not willing to see, but as time wore on many people, myself included, have changed their opinion about the film and have decided to give it a chance. Real Steel is currently 59% rated fresh on Rotten Tomatoes receiving mixed reviews by critics.

Real Steel stars Hugh Jackman, Dakota Goyo, Evangeline Lilly, Anthony Mackie, Kevin Durand, Hope Davis, and hits theater TODAY!!!

20 million dollars is weak. The abysmal Green Lantern made more than twice that amount.

@indoraptor12: Green Lantern opened in the summer. No fall film has ever opened as high as Green Lantern did... the current Fall record is $50.3m by Jackass 3D.

If Real Steel can open to more than $33m it'll be in the top ten biggest Fall openings of all time.

$20 million is actually not bad for a non-holiday movie release. Considering that movie releases slow down from September to November, more people might go see this movie over time.

I watched it and as a comic book fan I'm really sorry to saying that this movie better than all comic book movies released in this year story wise and acting wise, I recoment to everyone and special effects not bad. I couldn't wait for bluray.

The movie was great. Makes you want to go and get your own robot. The movie has more depth than just robots punching each other. Thats Transformer's "plots". Great movie and once you get past the boxing robots you realize this is not just a movie for geeks.

Though the ending was a bit borrowed and those that saw it will know what I mean. I wont elaborate as it would lead to spoilers

It's a definite one to see and worth a trip to the theater.

@efesone the special effects were good but its a movie that tells a story. It's a perfect example of a movie which uses effects as a tool as part of the story telling process and not what forms the plot (like Micheal Bay tends to do)

@Kaziganthi tell your wife she will like the movie. Her first impression is understandable but she will be pleasantly suprised.

Geesh people whats with the obsession with how much money a movie makes? Green Lanter probably had twice the budget, the acting was ho hum and the writing was crap. real Steel cost almost half of that Crappy Green Lantern film so one day they maybe made a quarter of their money back already

Ichaos - 10/8/2011, 6:28 AM
Mr Moviefone is an idiot and probably phones his moviefone reviews in. A lot of things is better than Transforms 3. The difference is there is an actual story about people and good acting etc. Transformers 3 is just a big toy commercial.
