Offers the site, "If you thought Gorillas in the Mist had some unnerving poacher sequences, wait till you see what the first act of Rise of the Apes has in the store. They’ve cut together the opening sequence of the movie and it’s frightening as hell! The flick opens with a community of friendly chimpanzees, led by devoted duo Alpha and Bright Eyes, running for their lives when a dozen poachers on horseback approach their community, looking for pelt and subjects. The apes are terrified – lots of screaming! – as the poachers attack, net and take down the poor things. Babies are captured. Guns come out. Shots are fired. Bright Eyes loses her mate. It’s a sad, sad massacre. Fade in on Franco’s character doing an experiment on the newly-captured chimp – now alone, scared and without her friend. I have to say, this is going to be a rather unnerving, disturbing but fabulous opening sequence – definitely not one for the faint-hearted. If you’re anything like me, you likely cringe at sequences involving animals being hurt or killed, this one’s sure to impress but also distress."

What this scene instantly reminiscent of is the one from the original 1968 Planet of the Apes, in which Charlton Heston's Colonel George Taylor finds himself being hunted with other humans by gorillas on horseback. That sequence is below courtesy of YouTube.

i just hope the new film has nothing to do with the tim burton planet of the apes film and is more of a story driven and darker realer feel to it.tim burtons was kinda cheesy and had a space feel to it. even the older films were better looking back at them.i mean the graphic are better but the story telling was better. now that i think about it the story telling back then in most films were better then now in most cases. we need better writers. sorry for the negetivety i just think that in films the writers can do better if they just take a little more time and think things out.

Caesar: Rise of the Apes has NOTHING to do with Tim Burton's remake, and in fact in many ways will be its own thing, pretty far removed from the original film series as well. Everything I've heard about it so far sounds very promising. This is, I think, going to be very different than many people expect.

i loved the original its a sci-fi classic, none of the sequels were as good as the original but still entertaining.

the tim burton version had amazing make up but thats it.

hope the new one is better than all previous ones but it'll take a lot to beat the original.

@ leee777

good call on grodd,i'd love to see him in the flash.

i could picture him being well spoken like patrick stewart, but a deep voice like michael clarke duncan.

Yeah, bring on Gorilla Grodd!

All these remakes have mostly been letting me down!

Blah@ It's not negative to say the truth...the writing
nowadays is just awful in most cases! Too bad Roberto
Orci and Alex Kurtzman can't write everything!

The good writing is few and far between!

Is this supposed to be a remake of 'Conquest of the Planet of the Apes'? The premise sounds identical.

The first movie was awesome. I'm hoping this movie will be good.

Flagg, if you were to pick a launching point for this reboot, I would say Conquest is about as safe a bet as any. Apes are NOT slaves in this one, but they are being experimented on, and the genetic experimentation on one in particular, Caesar, will create a domino effect that will result in humanity's fall.

Believe me, I'm a GIANT Apes fan and even co-wrote a pretty thorough book on the subject, Planet of the Apes Revisited, and although I was skeptical after Burton's version, everything about this one sounds promising.

the guy seems to be quite disgusted by the actions of the poachers and stuff on screen. as he should be. but my question is are they using cgi chimps for this movie? if not, and they are using live ones, where does he think those chimps came from? either them or at some point in the past their parents ended up in hollywood the same way. seems pretty hypocritical to me.

the movie sound like its heading in the right direction though

There are no clips from the new film. That original article was talking about the fact that apparently they had edited that opening scene together, and an insider was describing it.

@LEEE777- technically that would still be recycled since it's based on a comic. That aside, I love the idea of this film. Kind of wish they were going with practical makeup, but I trust in WETA to get the job done.
