Charlie Hunnam will be starring in upcoming sci-fi epic Pacific Rim, to be directed by Guillermo Del Toro. Deadline reported it first saying that actor is negotiating for the lead, and now THR is confirming the story.

"Charlie Hunnam, best known for playing biker Jax Teller in Kurt Sutter's superb FX series Sons of Anarchy, is negotiating to star in Pacific Rim for director Guillermo del Toro."

Also, some more info on the story:

The Legendary Pictures film, scripted by Travis Beacham, is set in a future where giant malevolent creatures threaten to destroy the earth, city by city. To combat its annihilation, the planet must band together and use highly advanced weapons technology to eradicate the growing threat. The movie is influenced by mecha, the Japanese genre involving humans piloting robotic constructs.

I have to say, very interesting choice. Hunnam is a great actor. He was also in Green Street Hooligans starring alongside Elijah Wood. Plus, Sons of Anarchy is just awesome! So, I'm sure he will do a great job in Pacific Rim. What do you think of this casting?

@grif: Huh, you know, I was wondering the same thing. I know this is going to be epic, so let's hope that this time del Toro won't have any production problems.

this is a CBM? just sayin.

either way glad Del Toro is back at it again, making up for lost time. I was more interested for 'At The Mountains of Madness' but i hope Del Toro shows Universal, sometimes you need to take chances, not everything can be/should be a remake, sequel, prequel of a previous franchise.

Intruder:

Not trying to mess with you, but did WB green light The Flash or are you just hoping it comes out that year? The guy who just took over WB, Jeff Robinov said that Justice League was a priority for 2013. It was implied in his statements that The Flash and Wonder Woman would be spun off of the JLA film, not launched as seperate franchises. Along with the other movies you listed, I think should be added Green Lantern 2 for the summer since a sequel was ordered into development by WB last year while GL was filming based off studio confidence from dailies. WB feels certain GL will be a big hit and didn't want to be in same boat Marvel was in after Ironman where the director was not signed for another film and a sequel had to be put together quickly to meet a 2 year turn around for a second film. Second, I think Justice League will be the holiday season film because I think a director will be named at this years Comic Con(my hope/guess) and he's gonna need some time for casting and pre production work. This would meet what seems to be WB's new post Harry Potter release strategy of 2 DC films a year starting next year with Batman and Superman films. This would set up the Flash for summer 2014 and Wonder Woman for Christmas 2014, since the lead actor and actress could do double duty, sort of a reverse of Chris Evans on Captain America TFA and The Avengers. Justice League would be released in time for monster toy sales, but would not come off so much as a panicked response to The Avengers then if released the next summer. Anyway, you put together a good list of films.
