Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.

Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete. Living and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

Very nice. The awesome visuals should be expected, but the concept of the story is also pretty interesting. I kind of get that Source Code vibe in it, although I'm not really sure, either - coming from the director of Tron: Legacy, the story MIGHT fall short again, but nonetheless I'm firm I'll be able to enjoy it very much for the visuals. Here's to hoping it will be all around amazing, though.

I'm not a big fan of Tron: Legacy at all, but this looks really good. Loving the look of the film, the atmosphere, and of course, the visuals. The story sounds interesting, and some talented writers worked on the film, such as William Monahan and Michael Arndt. Hoping it's another great science fiction film.

Sounds very Wall-E-ish to me.

@TheNerdicon what are you talking about? Calling it original and ground breaking doesn't mean they're calling it "THE BEST EVER".
I think it looks great, and Tom Cruise always gives great performances. Also I'm tired of how I constantly see comments from people saying that "why can't Hollywood make anything original?" and then we get a movie like this and suddenly it's shit and won't be as good as other original movies. It makes complete sense why studios remake films instead of making new films and it's because you people can't be satisfied and it's easier to remake a movie because most of the already established fan base will go see it.

I personally liked Tron: Legacy for what it is, so I believe I won't have much problem if this ends up being another mere visual treat, because I have faith in Kosinski on that aspect. However, I sure won't mind seeing Oblivion as something entirely better than that, either.

Tom Cruise needs to go away. You too, Brad Pitt.

I might see this. I'll keep my expectations low, though. Tron: Legacy started off with that giddy feeling of returning back to The Grid — it just seemed like it didn't have anywhere to take the story afterwards. Oh, and I thought of Wall•E when they mentioned "clean up crew", when Olga's character landed (Eve moving the story along into Act Two) & the circular appearance of the flying craft. And I'm not a big fan of Tom Cruise, but I don't dislike him. His moves are good and he looks promising here.

That actually looks very good, but I'm getting tired of Tom Cruise.

My love for Olga Kurylenko far outweighs me being tired of seeing Tom Cruise in everything though, so I'll see it.

"60 years ago, Earth was attacked. We won the war, but half the planet was destroyed."

Sound like it would have worked well as a sequel (60 years later) to Independence Day. LOL

A lot can be said about Cruise. But he sure is passionate about his sci-fi. And they often end up good - probably because of just that.

this looks great, I never understand why people are so down on Tom Cruise. I dont care what anybody believes in, thats the great part about being a free human being, you get to believe in what every you want. I have never witnessed Tom Cruise put any less that 100% into any role. I have never seen him just call in a performance. He has put way more good movies than bad movies out and even his bad movies he still shows up and gives that 100%, never has he just kind of called in his performance.

@gannicus

Ethan Hunt? As in the super spy? How the hell did you get that from this trailer?

The movie looks epic, Tom Cruise is a solid actor who really puts everything into his roles. That's how he's gotten this longevity in success.

The man does his job and he does it well. People appreciate that. When they're wondering what movie to watch, and they see Tom Cruise they know what they're getting... their money's worth. You can't beat that.

Unless you're Peter Jackson with LotR, or some kids movie.

Tron Legacy was amazing.

This movie looks epic though, very excited. I don't know how you get bland from Tom Cruise. He's anything but bland; as a matter of fact, he's a great actor, and possibly batshit crazy in real life.
