Showblitz has learned that Charlotte Riley (the fiancee of The Dark Knight Rises and Lawless star Tom Hardy) has joined the cast of All You Need Is Kill, Warner Bros.' adaptation of the science fiction graphic novel of the same name. The film will be directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity), while Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt are set to star. Riley was at one point considered for the role of Selina Kyle/Catwoman in TDKR, in which Hardy plays the villainous Bane. Despite appearing in several British television series/telepics, this will be her first major Hollywood role. Riley will be playing "a soldier who, along with Emily Blunt, fights alongside Cruise's character in a war against aliens."

Cruise recently began work on All You Need Is Kill in London, shortly after wrapping Universal Pictures' Oblivion. No release date has been confirmed yet, but WB should (hopefully) announce one in the near future. Below is a plot summary of the graphic novel:

There’s one thing worse than dying. It’s coming back to do it again and again… When the alien Gitai invade, Keiji Kiriya is just one of many raw recruits shoved into a suit of battle armor and sent out to kill. Keiji dies on the battlefield, only to find himself reborn each morning to fight and die again and again. On the 158th iteration though, he sees something different, something out of place: the female soldier known as the Bitch of War. Is the Bitch the key to Keiji’s escape, or to his final death?

"Tom Hardy's fiancee (who was actually considered for the role of Selina Kyle/Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises) has been cast in her first major Hollywood role"

How was she considered?, how? O.o

Never ceases to amaze me how much of the film industry is nepotism-based and not talent based.
It must be frustrating for new talent graduating acting-schools - not even making it to the casting and overlooked for a friend of a friend of the director.

I know Nolan has a habit of re-hiring talent from his previous projects, but there is a point where it becomes ridiculous if its going to extend to family and friends of said talent.

Anyway, this new Tom Cruise film sounds like Groundhog Day in Space.

She's actually pretty talented; her work in 'The Take' was pretty impressive, but I'm glad now Hathaway got the gig in 'Rises,' I think she did Nolan's version justice

Well, if she's genuinely got the talent then "congratulations Charlotte!".

I wanna hate this bitch for getting Tom Hardy to marry her.
But then again, she is really really pretty! So I'm not surprised.

Let the hate flow through you CherryBomb...
Good!, gooooood!, I can feel your anger. It gives your writing focus! - makes your opinion stronger!.

Besides, not THAT pretty Cherry. Not as pretty as you anyway.

*blushes*

Besides she's far too bony for my bear-like tastes. All those bony-bits sticking into you while you're trying to hibernate... it would be like sleeping with a bicycle-frame.

so, i haven't read the book in over a year, but i can tell you guys it's really really damn good. i'm disappointed they cast the white cruise as opposed to a number of young asian actors who could've done the role brilliantly. but oh well. at least the film can increase awareness of the book.

and lastly she IS NOT AT ALL called the 'bitch of war'. her nickname has the word 'bitch' in it, i just can't remember exactly what it is. i'll look later & re-post the correct name. sorry, just a little nitpick.

If she was cast as catwoman bane would be twice as jealous, and pissed.

They were in Wuthering Heights together, Hardy's voice in that is almost identical to Bane.
