Epic New Clip From PACIFIC RIM Focuses On Jaeger Vs. Kaiju Action

The fifth clip from Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim is arguably more exciting that the last four combined as it focuses on the early stages of an epic battle between a ginormous robotic Jaeger and a monstrous Kaiju. Check it out!

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot and an untested trainee — who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Yeah, the guys acting in relation to the Kaiju is really looking fake, very bad for a scene released by the studio?!? last part looks exciting!! ;)

The monster looked spectacular!
Simply beautiful design and CGI.

Charlie Day bobbing and shifting back and forth looked very stilted and unbelievable.

It literally LOOKED like he was just miming to something CGI to be added later, as opposed to looking natural. It was almost like he was hamming it up way too much.

He didn't pull it off.

Bizzaro Abrams looks stupid as [frick] leaning back in front of the monster. But I detect some degree of mindless fun in between the terrible performances and shitty music.

This could go all kinds of ways (mostly bad). The hokey tone could be intentional, I don't know. But I think I'll have to see it in theaters. I'm on the hook anyway for tickets since my co-worker paid for Star Trek.

That tongue probably was practical FX, actually. They also built the set for the Jaeger cockpit, as well as four blocks of Hong Kong. An animatronic tongue wouldn't be beyond them.

Neo what is your deal man? First off, that's Charlie Day you're talking about, and shitty performances and music? You need to get your eyes and ears checked buddy.

Embassada
Embassada - 7/1/2013, 10:32 AM
That clip was badass but the glaring flaw in it is Charlie Day's unconvincing reaction to the monsters tentacle like tongue. I hope it's not too much of stuff like that in the overall movie.

Why are people complaining about a movie and calling it a bomb before it even comes out?

PosingKyle

I don't think the music is crap to be honest, it just doesn't fit. It's more of a throwback and homage to the classic black&white monster movies...problem is: this is 2013.
NeoBaggins
NeoBaggins - 7/1/2013, 10:42 AM
@AgentMothman You're obviously fanboyed out to no return over this, but yeah. I watched Charles Daily or whatever yell out cringe-worthy lines with Ron Pearlman. Then I watched this clip, saw his stupid reaction and heard the old Starsky&Hutch-Columbo music playing and came to the conclusion of my statement.

Did you read where I said it looks fun? Fanboy goggles will do that.

ndwwrestler2

@Charlie2094 I've never seen the Hellboy movies, but from what I've heard, they are a lot fun.

I expect non-sense from a movie about Robots vs Monsters. If Del Toro is the storyteller people say he is, and if you are a Del Toro fan, how can you judge the movie based off very little dialogue?

This movie isn't going to be perfect, but I believe it's going to make more than an Adam Sandler movie.
