Firefly Fans Rallying To Bring The Show Back

The fans of the prematurely cancelled TV Firefly have been recently sparked back into life by a quote by the shows former star Nathan Fillion saying if he could he would buy the rights to the show he would bring it back on the internet, now fans have taken it upon themselves to make that claim become reality

Firefly ran only a few short weeks back in 2002 after being cancelled by FOX (The Alliance?), but fans have been trying to spark it back into life. The group of fans known as Brown Coats have been successful once when attempting to give the show another shot. This second chance came in the form of the 2005 film Serenity.

Though the Brown Coats would make pushing for a sequel to Serenity their new priority, the idea of a Firefly revival never left their minds or hearts.

In a recent interview with ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY (reported here by our own Josh Wilding), Fillion had this to say about his former and favorite TV show ever coming back:

"If I got $300 million from the California Lottery, the first thing I would do is buy the rights to "Firefly," make it on my own, and distribute it on the internet," Fillion told EW, a CNN.com partner.

So the BC have taken it upon themselves to make their's and Fillion's dream a reality.

Former Firefly writer Jose Molina responded to fans sudden relit needs to get the show back on the air via his twitter:

"For what it's worth, I've told him I'd drop what I was doing and follow."

Then star Jewel Staite was also asked via Twitter if she would be joining the show should it come back. She responded with a Christopher Walken Quote (also used as joke by Fillion in the show Castle):

"Is the Pope Catholic?"

Then the shows Facebook group had over 10,000 new members only twenty-four ours after Fillion's EW interview.

Now a new site accepting donations for the shows return called HelpNathanBuyFirefly.com

Fans also believe that the show's creator Joss Whedons successful Internet special (also starring Fillion) Dr. Horribles Sing Along Blog proves that show could work well being broadcast over the internet.

So how about it Brown Coats are you joining the rally, I sure as hell am.

"Castle" and "Chuck" have to get canceled first. "The Cape" is on it's way out, so Summer Glau will be available soon.
Then the rest of the main cast have to become available.
Also, it would have to be after Joss Whedon is done with "The Avengers", they can't revive the show without him.

With all of that being said - the show being brought back isn't very likely, a sequel to "Serenity" is much more realistic.

P.S.- I wonder... Was "Cowboys & Aliens" [the comic book] somewhat inspired by "Firefly" and "Serenity"?

BRING IT BACK! BRINK IT BACK!

I'd make it more like SERENITY!
Drop the cowboy Western motif
and just keep similar costumes
and make it a total all-out SPACE
OPERA a la STAR WARS!

With MAL (NATHAN FILLION) and all
the bunch this would be gangbusters
on NBC or ABC or one of the big
cable channels with a big budget
(No SYFY CHANNEL, PLEASE!).

The cast is young enough to be brought
back together for this!

YEAH, YEAH, YEAH...BRING DEM KIDS BACK
to TV SERIESDOM!!!!!!!!

To be clear, your article has a bit of a factual error

"Now a new site accepting donations for the shows return called HelpNathanBuyFirefly.com "

They are NOT accepting donations and said they will not until they can get a confirmed heavy-hitter from the show involved.

Ya know MAL always seemed so cool, like HAN SOLO!

An independent SPACE SHIP captain flitting about
the GALAXY with his motley crew and strange
passengers!

And especially of course, BRING BACK THE MEGA-
SEXY SUMMER GLAU as that ass-kicking SUPER-NINJA,
RIVER TAM! ROWEEEERRRRRRR! :)

And bring in lots of aliens!

with movies like "Cowboys and Aliens" coming out, Firefly would do so much better if it continued now. no reboot. just same cast, new stories.

I don't think it would matter if he won $300 million in the California Lotto. California is broke and would not be able to make good on the lotto. I would like the win the lotto too, 96K is all I need.

I'm sure that the majority of the people reading the story already know this, but NBC Universal currently hold the live action rights to the Firefly universe. They also failed pretty miserably running Caprica on SyFy, and I am pretty it is going to cost much more per episode to air Battlestar: Blood and Chrome than it would to produce new episodes of Firefly. Firefly would also get more viewers with the almost 10 years of overwhelmingly positive press it has gotten. Even just posting new episodes on Amazon, Hulu, and Itunes would make a decent profit.

If Nathan Fillion wants to spend the three months of the year he isn't doing Castle working on Firefly, he would be the only one that would be hard to book. V and Chuck will most likely be done this year, so Adam Baldwin and Morena Baccarin will be available. The rest of the cast including Summer Glau don't really have much going on right now so it would be a good time. Joss Whedon also does not need to direct any episodes, he could just call every once in a while with ideas and notes.

Just a thought.

DDD - Did you even WATCH the original series? The charm and attraction of the original was that it WAS a space western! CHANGING it into something else CHANGES what makes it WORK!

My only regret is that Shepherd and Wash are dead (RIP) - I loved those two! Hell, the ENITRE CAST is FANTASTIC! The show had a real 'family' feel to it. Can we get a donation pool going? Someone set up a Paypal account - I'm in!

Sure it's an insane long shot. But that really isn't the point. The real point is to let it be known, loud and clear, that this is what the fans want, and how many of us there are, and how far we are willing to go. :D

Firefly remains my favourite show ever.

LOGANONEILL@, Serenity was more space opera than
western, that's all I was saying. I wasn't talking
about changing the characters, the ship, or how
the characters dress. I didn't mean change what
makes FIREFLY great! I was only talking about the stories!

I have seen every episode many times and SERENITY
many times! I'm a FIREFLY NUT!!! LOL

There's nothing wrong with the idea of a lot of
the humans taking on the frontier style out in
the stars. I should have said "only tone down the
human western stuff a little, not "drop" it"!
Poor choice of words.

They did that toward the end of the series and for
the SERENITY movie.

I wasn't talking about a complete change and a
reboot, for crying out loud! Just a lot more like
the SERENITY movie.
