I think I figured out the Observers and September, but I am unsure whether David Robert Jones plays a part in that or if he is wholly separate.

The Observers were a pre-invasion force from the future sent to gauge this timeline's defenses and route out possible counter measures, hence them being at all the major Fringe events. Their presence at historical events is either simple tourism like the early claim, or them deciding on the best point in time to invade.

September's job was the same as the original T-800, he was supposed to prevent Peter Bishop from surviving so that he and Olivia would not have a daughter capable of blocking her thoughts from the Watchers. However he has second thoughts, similar to the T-800 in later movies. The beginning of 4x19 seemed like a big hint, the intro seemed very Terminator to me.

I've been following this show but it is the usual Abrams nonsense... Whetever happened to the pattern? What did the tunneling beacons mean? What was up with the manifest and ZFT? Or the first people? Why the sudden change in the observer's intentions? And so on... Of course, the easy answer is that this universe has been reset.

Maybe it will all end in a church, they'll all hug and cry and be happy, and people will say what was important was the emotional closure and the rest of us didn't get the series or are morons. Oh well...

At least Crapatraz will be canceled.

@jj2112

Maybe if you were actually following the series, you would know the answers to your questions.

The pattern from season one was a series of test subjects experimented on by William Bell and Walter Bishop. As the series progresses, it becomes less about the pattern and more about the discovery of the other side.

The beacons were tech belonging to the observers. We're meant to believe that the beacons help the observers travel.

The ZFT was written by Walternate. "Destruction through technological advancement"

The first people were those involved in sending the machine back through time in 2026.
