Aykroyd talks Ghostbusters at WNY event: wivb.com

"We've got a new writing staff working on it now," Aykroyd said. "It's got to be prefect. That's the whole thing. There's no point in doing it unless it's perfect. So that's what we're up to now."

Okay, where did we leave off? Oh right, Bill Murray was on David Letterman's "hilarious" talk show and said that he would be open to making a third Ghostbusters film, but so far the scripts haven't been up to snuff. Alright, so today Dan Aykroyd has confirmed that a new writing staff working on the project, but no details were given. The last writers to work on the script were Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who co-wrote Jack Black's dud Year One and Cameron Diaz's Bad Teacher.

Don't ruin the franchise for us. For me, Ghostbusters 2 will always be the last.

Beautiful!!!!
Danny's getting it perfect for Bill! He's not gonna do it without him. Imean he knows that Billy's right anyway, right? It has to be perfect. Good to hear about the new writer's. Was never too hyped about the Office US guys writing it. I'm a writer myself and an evil part of me wishes the whole thing would stay in limbo until I can establish myself a little, so I could ask for the gig. I've always regarded the first Ghostbusters as Citizen Kane meets Watchmen meets Lord of the Rings meets Stripes.

I can only thank the Gods that they didn't give us a GhostBusters 3 that was written by the 'geniuses' behind Year One.

If they make GhostBusters 3 then I will have to see it, I grew up on that franchise. But dammit I just don't want a rubbish film.

Every trashes Year One and I don't know why, I thought it had funny dialogue, and the timeline/plot made no sense but it was meant to be that way lol.

I really hope it happens, but the way he worded it and with the delays that have been going on, it sounds like the whole "There is no point in doing it if it isnt perfect" thing means that they may be slowly killing it off, but secretly and making it look like "it just didnt work out".
HOPEFULLY NOT THOUGH! Because I REALLY want a Ghostbusters 3!

That's great to hear. The Office is one of my favorite TV shows. The writers for it aren't the right people to be penning a Ghostbusters script though.

You have to have Bill Murray star in it. It's not Ghostbusters without Venkman.

In Dan I trust.

the cancer drama "my sisters keeper" was genuinely funnier than "year one".

Something makes me think Dan Akroyd's retirement is depending entirely on this movie.

How about nothing gets posted about this movie until there is something actually concrete about it. Like "filming to begin (insert date) on Ghostbusters 3"?

It's a rarity to hear the word "reboot" come out of my mouth (or typed by my fingers in this case), but I can SADLY say that this is one of those moments.

Personally, I just think this is a sequel that should have happened back in the early '90's. It's been over 20 years, and they're still getting writers together. Except for my fellow nerds, now in their 30's and 40's, where is the audience for this film? My kids, ranging from five to 17 won't even sit through the first two...or the animated series. So, why would, say my teen who a movie like this should be aimed at, want to see a part three?

Loved the first one. Liked the second. Loved the cast. But the only way I can see this franchise foing forward in the '10's is to start over.

I was into the idea of bringing in a new fresh young talented/comedic actors to be the new Ghostbusters recruits in addition to the original crew at first, but I've sense changed my mind. As much as I'd love to see GB3 I completely see where Bill Murray is comIng from in being so difficult in this process. I am a huge fan of the original and even the sequel to an extent and I would not want to see a classic like GB get a modern treatment and leave a bad taste in mouths of the fans like Kingdom of the Crystal Skull did with Indiana Jones.

Im kinda worried there 2nd one was disapointing and if they make another flop the franchise will be that much more of a failure. However if they pull it off and it works then the franchise will have recovered from that flop and die out a success. Sooooo theres alot of pressure on them

THE WORD REBOOT COMES TO MIND, I GET IT..ORIGINALS SHOULD BE IN GHOSTBUSTERS, BUT TODAYS AUDIENCE NEEDS TO BE WOWED BY SOMETHING FRESH, HATE ON ME IF YOU WANT TO HATERS BUT ITS TRUE. GET NEW FACES PLAYING THE CHARACTERS STAYING TRUE TO WHAT THE ORIGINALS DID. I'D GET RDJ AS VENKMAN AND MMAYBE SOME OTHER GREAT COMEDIC ACTORS TO FILL THE OTHER SHOES, MAYBE GET KAT DENNINGS TO BE THE SECRETARY,(FOR BOOBAGE) BOTTOM LINE...NOBODY WANTS TO SEE OLD GUYS FIGHTING OR CAPTURING GHOSTS...YES..YOU PLUS I GREW UP AND LOVED GHOSTBUSTERS, THATS AWESOME THEY WERE AWESOME..IT'S 2012, WE WANNA SEE A FRESH RE-VISIT AND RETELLING..NOT THE OLD GUYS RETURN, IT'LL BE LIKE THE ENDING TO BATTLE SHIP WITH THE SLOW MO GERITOL WALK..C'MON.

Brain damage is right, they're gonna ruin it by aiming it at teenagers for a wider audience but the teens these days won't appreciate it like we did. So I say screw aiming it to be a family film. Fans are much older now so why don't they bring the humour and action up a notch and aim it for the true fans out there. Who remember the film that made us truly believe we all could be Ghostbusters!

Give it up. I was a huge champion of GB3 for most of my life, and I've given up hope that it'll be made and or be good.
