Ghostbusters 3 Gonna Call Matthew Gray Gubler?

Dan Akroyd was on Dennis Miller radio show today and revealed that he'd like Matthew Gray Gubler of CBS's hit show ‘Criminal Minds’ to be a ghostbuster. He added that he'd like four new members, one being a woman.

DAN AKROYD

“I like this guy Matthew Gray Gubler from the ‘Criminal Minds’ show. But there’s going to be a casting. We’re going to see everyone that wants to do it. We’re going to need…three guys and a young woman.

In Nolanite's article he has quotes from Akroyd saying they plan to make Ghostbusters 3 with or without Bill Murray's involvement. One of the things that bothers me about Bill is that he clearly has no interest in making this film. He has a script sitting on his desk and he supposedly hasn't read it. Now, if he did or he didn't read it, that isn't important. His lack of interest is a warning sign that his heart is into the sequel and it may not be a bad thing not to have him in it. I love Bill, but no one wants to watch him phone it in.

As for Matthew, he plays the role of the young and brilliant Dr. Spencer Reid on ‘Criminal Minds’. He has also voice Simon in live action version of Alvin and the Chipmunks and the Squeakquel.

Would he make a good ghostbuster? I've seen him perform on ‘Criminal Minds’ a few times, and I wasn't exactly impressed. Maybe I'm just bored of those types of shows and I don't get wowed by any actors performance. More importantly what do you guys think, would Matthew make a good ghostbuster?

Ghostbusters 3 is expected to film in Spring 2012

If he wants to do that, I'd rather they do the approach from "Extreme Ghostbusters". I do recall it WAS three guys and a girl...

yeah i agree with flixmentallo, this sounds to be like extreme ghostbusters if they are going to have a girl busting ghosts. i would rather see 4 male ghostbusters like the originals and then have the female secretary but then that makes me sexiest. why dont they put a handicap ghostbuster in there as well like the extreme ghostbusters. extreme ghostbusters was horrible.

@Grif. It's a failure to have a woman on the team?
I think as a straight man, I'd rather be on a team with some girls in it, then a bunch of nerdy dudes..
Just saying

I could see Gubler playing Egon's kid. It would make sense to me, seeing as how Egon was the brains and he plays the "smartest kid in the room" role very well. With Aziz Ansari, I would say that he would probably do fairly well, but not really a cut-and-paste of any of the previous Ghostbusters.

Oh, and as for a girl on the team, I could care less. Make her Oscar's little sister.

If they give the reigns to new Ghostbusters, why does Bill Murray need to be in it to for it to succeed? The old Ghostbusters roles will be minimal. What don't you people get about that. 10 minutes of them missing Bill Murphy does not mean the movie will flop. You'd still have 3 of the original 4 for however long their cameos are. That's pretty good. And none of the kids these days even care who the old Ghostbusters are. It will be a new generation of Ghostbusters with a chick member. Things change, people change.

I'm probably the biggest Ghostbuster fan on this site, I have 7 shirts, stickers, a car freshner of the logo, both movies on Blu Ray, wore GB pjs when I was kid, had all the toys. ALL OF THEM. I had the Proton Pack and Trap. I have The Real Ghostbusters animated series on my computer.
I even had the old vhs tapes of Ghost Busters (who had a gorilla as a team member). Yeah. I'm a Ghostbuster freak.

That being said, I say move on without Bill, I love the guy, but I've been wanting a 3rd film for 15 or so years. I think with today's special effects, and audiences liking science fiction these days, it'd do quite well. Hell, just the name would rake in cash. Just say it. GHOSTBUSTERS. 3. Yeah, makes me tingly lol.

I wonder how people would take it if the 4 ghostbusters were Mexican, Black, Chinese, and Arabic, while all the ghosts were white.

@Dexter ummmmmmmmmmm http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097428/

@Metro I could be wrong but I dont think Bill Murray is any of those. Also you forgot Eskimo, Hawaiian, Apachie, (india) indian and of course A French mime. To get more politically "correct", diverse, social engineering you would have to make some gay and or lezbian, one blind, one thats a quauapalegic, one a catholic, one jewish, one "pagen" basically the casting process would be the most convoluted 4 guys walk into a bar joke

I like the idea of Matthew for the movie I hope he takes the job. He fits the bill of an educated paranormal investigator. I don't know about Egons kid though. I was going more on the lines of an older seasoned Oscar.

Some other casting choices would be Rainn Wilson, and Simon Pegg. I don't know about any females on the team, but I do remember rumors of Eliza Dusku and Anna Faris.

I could see Anna Faris playing a Ghostbuster. As far as Gubler, I don't know, I'd have to see his screen test first. It depends on how they want to play him, straight or comedic.

This has been such a problematic process, i am really surprised they just dont reboot it like everything else...The second one was pretty rough, and neither set stage well for sequels...

Re-boot, lay all groundwork for a franchise, and just do it right. Good Actors/Actresses, Good Story, Good Writer, and Good Direction...dont insult us with a Hodgepodge slap together version of Ghostbuster that is like Happy Days without Ron Howard (ok, now i am dating myself). If recent evens in CBMs and SciFi reboots have shown anything (Apes and Trek) is that if you do a reboot right, treat it with respect, and make a good story...we WILL bite...
