After numerous delays, Sony Pictures' The Dark Tower is finally set for an August release, during a weekend that in recent years has proven to be quite fruitful for unproven potential franchise launchers, namely Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014 and Suicide Squad in 2016.

Golden Globe-winner Idris Elba (Thor: Ragnarok) and Academy Award-winner Matthew McConaughey (Gold) headline the piece as The Gunslinger and The Man in Black, respectively, with a supporting cast that features Tom Taylor (Legends), Katheryn Winnick (Vikings), Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen), Abbey Lee Kershaw (Mad Max: Fury Road), and Claudia Kim (Avengers: Age of Ultron), amongst others.

Yesterday, ahead of their show-stopping Venom announcement, Sony released two new character posters for the film featuring the two leads front-and-center. Check them out, in full hi-resolution, below:

Plus, here's a new still of Elba and Taylor, courtesy of Empire Magazine.

There are other worlds than these. Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, the ambitious and expansive story from one of the world’s most celebrated authors, makes its launch to the big screen. The last Gunslinger, Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), has been locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim, also known as the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black.

The Dark Tower features:
Director: Nikolaj Arcel
Idris Elba as Roland Deschain/The Gunslinger
Matthew McConaughey as Walter Padick/The Man in Black
Tom Taylor as Jake Chambers
Katheryn Winnick as Laurie Chambers
Jackie Earle Haley as Sayre

Michael Barbieri as Timmy
Claudia Kim as Arra Champignon
José Zúñiga as Dr. Hotchkiss

@EdgyBillCipher - Yes. The Dark Tower covers are always mysterious, with a dark, magic feel. Those posters are lame.

The cast in this is good, and from the trailers it looks interesting, but they're taking too many deviations from the source material.

I've got mixed feelings about this one. The cast is quite good but has little resemblance to the characters from the books. It would work better for me if this was starting from the beginning rather than a sequel.
