Is There A New Star Wars Movie Coming?

We already know about the TV show, but on writer Thomas Dolby's blog, he mentions a movie too...

It's not much, and Dolby may just have mis-spoke, but in his blog he details his visit to California and mentions some upcoming Star Wars-related projects, including a movie!

This from Dolby's blog

"..My host is friend and former collaborator Paul Sebastien, who over the years has worked for Xbox, Playstation, and now LucasArts. Last night he was telling me a little about the forthcoming Star Wars-related TV show, movie and online games—very cool indeed.
[EDIT]
...it sounds like Mr Lucas has got his head into a good place. I met him several times when I was working on a movie in the 80s called [name suppressed to protect credibility!] and he’s a decent chap, but I could have done without the last three SW movies."

Is he mistaken? Did he mis hear his host? Is he a lunatic?..Or, is this the real deal? Lucas has already stated that there would be no more big screen Star Wars movies, but he may have changed his mind on the matter. The Clone Wars cartoon has been a pretty big success, and with the likes of Avatar being hyped from here to The Skywalker Ranch, maybe The Beard wants back in the mix! Personally I hope that he does make another one..even if its only to make amends for the previous 3 abominations he inflicted on his fans(me included)..Well, I should say 2 abominations and a meh!

Could be another animated movie. With the success of the clone wars cartoon I wouldn't put it out of the realm of possibility.

@thwht I agree, most likely a animated movie if the story is 100% true.

I believe they are making a Clone Wars 2 animated like Guardian said

I'd like to see something that goes beyond Return of the Jedi. Animated movies of eps 7,8 and 9 could be cool.

I always heard that there was a 7, 8 and 9 possibility and in them (you all will hate this) Luke turns to the darkside and Leah becomes a Jedi. Im not saying this is gospel but I heard it about 10 years ago.

I'd bet on an animated feature.

Ror01, you were right the first time. 3 abominations

If it is a continuation of the series, there's a lot of work to do to make up for the crap we were served. Jar jar? Really?

There are a series of novels that deal with luke training under a clone of paplatine Matowar . They were written my keven j. anderson and deal with the rise of the new jedi order.

They have the lucas seal of aproval and are considered canon, but I'm not sure we'll see them on the big screen.

Meh I don't if they were abominations, were they as amazing as the original 3? No. But were they interesting in their own right? I think so. They pale in comparison to their predecessors but I think they were still decent enough scifi movies.

@Ozy: Revenge of the Sith RULED... New Hope was great, Empire was Fantastic, Jedi was great, Phantom Menace was ok, and Attack of the Clones SUCKED...

I'd watch another live-action one (along with the tv show), but not that animation CRAP (sorry if I offended anyone)...

I believe if the original trilogy never existed, the prequels would have been sufficient enough. But with all the hype, time passed, and resources available, these last three hit the ground with the "force" of a falling safe. If you had Lucas' ear, would you tell him he did good enough? Would you say he can sleep easy at night? Easy enough to be a back seat driver, I know. But this is his legacy. I think he surrounded himself with yes men, afraid to give an honest appraisal of the films (seriously, how did Jar Jar Binks get past everyone?) and that is why he wound up in the situation he's in.

@Everyone. Well Lucas said a while back that he originally ahd plans for 9 films when he started the series in 1977. But instead he decided to do the six focusing on Vader's story.

He has said before that he most likely make films set after Return of the Jedi, he has set up a media empire of novels comics and games set after the series. Everything now made has to be approved by him, or is inspired by him. All but the comics printed by Marvel(I think that was the company) are considered canon now.

I rememebr reading somethign a while back where he said that he was interested in something set before the Knights of the Old Republic series. He mentioned that when discussing furture Star Wars TV series.

I personally would love to see something set after the amazing Legacy comics series that is ongoing at the moment. It takes place like 100 years from RotJ

PHOENIX out =P

Clones Wars 2, there could not be another Star Wars movie added to the Saga, because the Saga ended in Episode 6. Only animated ones can be done, that's it.
THEPHOENIX

I would also love to see an adaption of Timothy Zhan's Thrawn Trilogy. It was set jsut 5-7 years after ROTJ

Where is HAWK?

Is he still in bed?

I'm calling him an waking his ass up!

I love Star Wars but its hard to get excited after the past 3 pretty awful movies...! The Empire Strikes Back remains my all time favourite Star Wars movie.

Hmmm another Clone Wars movie sounds right.
JerusalemJr
JerusalemJr - 12/9/2009, 3:52 PM
Maybe it will be live action and Lucas' actual phrasing was "I will never be involved in another Star Wars movie". Then he wouldn't mess up another run by sticking his hands in the mix and we could have more Star Wars movies.

I also think the Zhan stuff would make a good 7, 8 and 9.

@ Geek4Life My wife and I saw it a month ago and it was absolutely unreal!! You're in for a huge treat! It also has the premier of Yoda done in CGI in The Phantom Menace scenes. They removed the puppet and he's CG to match the other two prequels!! I'll tell you to get there really early to see the props and costume before the show, because it got crowded pretty quick.

@THEPHOENIX Yeah, Legacy is the best SW comic currently published. It brings so much to the table. And I just picked up that sweet Darth Krayt action figure this past weekend. Whoo hoo!

@Avengersrule Awesome, man! I can't wait! Thanks for the tip. The Yoda news is good to hear. The puppet used in Phantom Menace just looked too weird.

@Avengersrule. I know! I just love how they've made Cade such a badass. I love the dynamic of himbeing the next Skywalker, but he basically refuses to involve himself in his past, preffering the life of a common merc!

I love Ostrander's work ever since SUicide Squad! he is so talented!

they made a Kryat figure?!?!?!?! I have to get HAWK that, he will love it! I hope kryat comes back though, he was a cool character. He goes from being a Jedi in the Clone Wars to ruling the Sith and the Galaxy!

The Phantom Plot was [frick]ing awful in pretty much every way. Trade federation? high taxes? Were we watching the [frick]ing politicians budget or a Star Wars movie? The only redeeming features were Liam Neeson and Darth Maul(all 5 minutes of him). Ewan Mcgregor sucked, Portman sucked, that Jake Loyd brat sucked. Need I mention Jar Jar?

The Attack Of The Clowns. More nonsensical bullshit, this time with th worst actor of the entire saga joining us..as Darth [frick]ing Vader! If possible, the dialog got even worse, and the droids took over from Jar Jar for the annoying factor.

Revenge Of The Shit. The best of the 3..which is sort of like saying cancer is better than aids. We finally get a good story, in fairness, it would have taken a legitimately mentally challenged Chimp to mess up Mannequin's transformation story. So we see him become Vader(Frankenstein walk and NOOOOOOOOOOOOO included just to ensure the scene isn't completely succesfull) McGregor gets a slightly better script and Portman sucks a bit less..Bravo George, you succeeded In making one movie that didn't completely rape the originals.

In all of them of course, the action scenes and special effects are great..but who gives a [frick] when thats ALL they get right!

HAAAHhahhahahah I pissed my britches. "...just to ensure the scene isn't completely succesfull" That is so on the nose it hurts. In fact, the whole assessment is money. Nailed it to the wall like an animal pelt.

Awesome torched!!!

I didn't mind the first 3 films. I actually really liked Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan, he's the reason I really like the new trilogy. I would LOVE to see someone else play Anakin though. Hayden.....just.........sucks. :P

As for new movies......I could take or leave them.

Despite Ror's objections to the story of the prequel trilogy, I think it was fine(again, the story. Not the movies). Save some necessary modification which would include some tamales and mariachi band. I really think the error is found with Lucas directing them himself. He's just not that great of a director. CGI doesn't solve everything, which his movies have contributed to this epiphany. The political intrigue, Anakin's origins, and the treatment of characters are essential. All of which George fouled up tremendously. Even the original trilogy stars (namely Harrison Ford) lauded the fact that a seasoned director understood the "actor's process" and the shortcomings of Lucas' banal dialogue. But no one can reasonably deny his writing efforts. The concepts are very brilliant.

I thought that I had heard in an interview of something a long time ago, that Lucas had written this huge story, and started making the films from the middle.. then recently he said that he had only written what he's already filmed and that was it
