It Sounds Like TERMINATOR: GENISYS Might Not Be A Box Office Flop After All
US audiences may not have taken to Terminator Genisys but the blockbuster sci-fi sequel is starting to find its feet abroad! A new report has surfaced, claiming that, thanks to its performance in China, the movie may not be a box office flop after all...
It's fair to say the ludicrously-titled Terminator Genisys didn't go down particularly well with US audiences, flopping at the domestic box office to the modest tune of $89.2 million (so far) - and provoking plenty of ire from both critics and fans of the franchise respectively. However, it seems the Alan Taylor helmed movie has been received much better overseas - specifically, in China.
Forbes are reporting that the sci-fi sequel opened with an impressive $27.4 million there, ranking as the country's fourth highest opening day ever. It's becoming increasingly clear that China's a key market for blockbusters, and the universal appeal of star Arnold Schwarzenegger is what likely prompted this remarkable performance. Forbes have speculated that by the time it finishes it's theatrical run, Genisys could potentially rake in a very respectable $450-500m worldwide.
Those sort of numbers might just be enough to warrant a sequel. Are you happy to see Terminator Genisys performing so well, or are you no longer interested in this franchise? As always, be sure to sound off with your thoughts in the comments below!
