Jim Starlin's DREADSTAR Will Now Be Adapted For Television
Back in April of last year we reported that a Dreadstar movie was in development, but the latest news on Jim Starlin's space-faring hero has him coming to the small screen courtesy of Benderspink and Universal Cable Productions. Click on for more...
"I am a memory from the planet Caldor. I am death". Production company Benderspink will join with Universal Cable Productions (they were previously working with Illuminati Entertainment on the movie version) to bring Jim Starlin's classic sci-fi comic series to the small screen. Starlin (co-creator of the likes of Thanos, Drax the Destroyer and Gamora) gave life to the character in the '80s for Marvel's Epic Illustrated, but his popularity soon led to his own series. The stories followed Vanth Dreadstar and his pals Syzygy Darklock, Willow, and a cat-man called Oedi as they battled the forces of the Church of The Instrumentality.
“I consider ‘Dreadstar’ to be an extension of my family, so it took me a while to feel comfortable letting anyone else take care of this project,” Starlin told The Hollywood Reporter. “It has taken some time, but I know I’ve put my trust in the right team and I’m excited to collaborate with Universal Cable Productions and Benderspink to bring ‘Dreadstar’s’ unique brand of chaos to television.” Although he may be before many of our CBMers' time, the adventures of Dreadstar and his motley crew made for a cracking sci-fi read, so this will hopefully be a uniquely cool TV series.
