King Kong: The Musical?

In a couple of years, King Kong could be coming to Broadway in the form of a musical under the guidance of Global Creatures, the Australian company that produced the touring Walking With Dinosaurs show.

Of "King Kong - Live on Stage," Variety reports, "Creative team is led by Daniel Kramer, the legit and opera helmer whose 'Woyzeck' played Arts at St. Ann's in 2006. Craig Lucas, whose credits include 'Prelude to a Kiss' and the book for 'The Light in the Piazza,' pens the adaptation. Score of the 40-performer production will comprise songs from the storyline's 1930s period arranged by composer, arranger and music producer Marius De Vries ("Kick-Ass," "Sucker Punch"), who also provides original music. Although Global Creatures topper Carmen Pavlovic characterized the show as a tuner, she added that the 20-foot-tall, animatronic incarnation of the title character won't be breaking out into song. Developing project recently completed a six-week workshop in Melbourne. A capitalization cost for the Broadway staging has not yet been nailed down, although it won't be small. 'What we do is expensive,' Pavlovic said. 'Dinosaur" creature designer Sonny Tilders ('The Chronicles of Narnia,' 'Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith') fills the same role for 'Kong.'... 'Kong' is authorized by the estate of Merian C. Cooper, the creator of the title and helmer of the 1933 film. A production timeline has not yet been laid out, but the show could arrive in Gotham as early as 2013."
