More Evidence That STAR WARS EPISODE VII Will Have A Female Lead?

Remember a while back when we posted this pretty sketchy rumor that J.J. Abrams' new Star Wars flick would have a female lead? Well now there's a bit more to support it. Read on for some Tweets from The Wrap's Jeff Sneider..

He means Wars not Trek.. obviously! This appears to be a very persistent rumor indeed, and I for one think there's definitely some truth to it. Lets assume it's legit, which character could it be? Well there's Princess Leia of course, but I doubt she'd be singled out to be the focus out of all of the original trilogy characters they could choose from. A far more likely choice - since this is a new generation we're talking about - is the daughter of Leia and Han Solo (Jaina Solo) but since we were told that the expanded universe novels weren't going to be drawn from, that also seems like a long-shot. There are lots of established characters it could be, or we could be looking as a brand new leading lady for that galaxy far far away. What do you guys think?

I think if Han and Leia had a daughter, with Leia's feistiness, Han's rogue rebel attitude, and her uncle Luke's connection to the Force, we could have a fantastic new protagonist in this trilogy.

In the extended universe, Han and Leia had one daughter, Jaina Solo. She will most likely be the female lead, seeing as she's known as the "Sword of the Jedi," which has the same significance as Anakin being the "Chosen One." Her twin, Jacen, becomes Darth Caedus, and he kills Mara Jade, Luke's wife, setting up some awesomeness in the EU.

She's pretty badass, along with her siblings, so I can't wait to see what they do with them and this new series.

@Jollem they were more love interests though, granted they got their action, but that's what they were, with Luke and Anakin being the main focus for the two trilogies.

Obviously the implication here is a female in the role of this trilogy's Luke or Anakin, which is a nice change

Let us not forget that Jaina is also been named a Jedi Master by Luke and is recently married to Emperor Jagged Fel...so yeah...interesting things going on in the EU.

Of course..this is the EU and completely subject to rewrites and generally be flushed down the toilet if the PtB want it.

Why is Disney against using the EU?
TheDIsSilent
TheDIsSilent - 5/10/2013, 6:07 PM
@thewonderer The events in the EU won't be mentioned, but they never said anything about characters from it.

They can use the characters from the EU and make a different story using them, you know.

@thewonderer I hate to speculate but...What they said could mean they wouldn't be adapting the story. But that wouldn't mean they couldn't adapt the characters.

I actually like the idea of a female lead.

The reason why Disney may ignore the EU is because they are well aware that the general audience probably didn't read EU stuff. Also they probably have hired writers who don't not shit about the EU canon. Now that isn't to say they may not cherry pick characters. But if the writer doesn't want to follow the kids of Skywalker and Solo then well......EU kinda locks things up.

Also I doubt they will bring Star War back with a female lead unless it's shared. Star Wars still needs to appeal to guys and guys would rather be the main character as opposed to the sidekick.

Knightgambit, nothing's "debunked". We only had that cryptic clue from /Film before this, so it's more evidence that there will be a female lead in the movie now that other sources are hearing the same thing.

Female driven stories are the stupidest things in history, they always end the same. The lady gets distracted by the guy, she falls for him and does nothing important.

I'm not watching this shit, if people thought Anikan was a lame ass shit character, just wait till we get a female lead.

Unless Disney wants to piss off the Star Wars version of "comic book fans", it's either going to be about Mara Jade or Jaina Solo.

Mara Jade is harder to pull off because she'd have to be as old as Luke Skywalker who will be in his 50's or so.

Jaina Solo seems the more obvious choice, since she's a Jedi Knight and student of Luke Skywalker, plus she has tons of stories to be told.

Jaina Solo seems to be the hottest property if I were Disney.
