Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger . A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which "Tributes" must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she's ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

The Hunger Games hits theaters March 23rd, 2012.

Cool. I haven't read the books so I don't know if I'll like it or not but it looks interesting. IMO.

Just finished the first book. It was ok but a rehash of battle royal, surviving the game, lord of the flies, the running man, death race, the condemed, and predator. Also, the author pull's human lizard hybrid's out of her ass near the end.

@whatevillurks Minor detail, but in the 1st book, I don't think they're lizard hybrids (they're in the 3rd book mockingjay), but more like human wolf hybrids.

You guys do realize Suzanne Collins did not get inspiration from Battle Royale...right?

She got it from greek mythology and the myth about the Minotaur, and the labyrinth.

So, I would od my research before jumping to conclusions...

Looks fantastic!
Loved the books! Best book series ever!

I can't wait!

Don't let the "Young Adult" handle keep you from reading these books. They are a great, easy read. Suprisingly gorey.

I'm a huge comic nerd, and of course I'm most stoked for Avengers and TDKR, but Hunger Games is 3rd on my list of most anticpated movies for 2012.

Do yourselves a favor and check out the first book at least...

@tweenkies - they never said it was inspired by they said it was a rehash, meaning the same thing that was done before, so I would read a comment properly before trying to correct someone.

@FishandChips...I was not directing it towards the people who commented above.

Others have said she stole the idea, when she did not.
She got the idea from mythology.

Yeah but no one here has said that yet, so obviously people are gonna think its directed at them.

@TWEEEENKIES

I don't give a fcuk what she said, she jacked it from BATTLE ROYALE. I'm 3/4 of the way through the 1st book, and thankfully it's different enough to be quite enjoyable....but anyone who thinks she wasn't inspired by BATTLE ROYALE is deluding themselves.

@Nomis....I think it was turned into a graphic novel...

But, it is a regular novel. You should check it out. It is fantastic!

@FishandChips...I don't really care.
People need to learn she did not steal the idea from some japanese movie.
We don't even know if she has ever even seen that movie, or read the original book.
I was stating people need to do their research and find out what inspired an author, before jumping to the coclusion she stole or rehashed the idea.
