Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.

Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete. Living and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

The trailer is pretty effective. The footage looks quite nice, and cinematography by Claudio Miranda (who just won an Oscar for his work on Life of Pi) is absolutely amazing. I'm definitely looking forward to this one. What do you think? Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the rest of the cast includes Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Melissa Leo, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Zoë Bell. Oblivion is set to hit theatres on April 12, 2013.

I'm gonna take a stab at the twist in this movie.

The war was not won by man. Instead, the enemies (or whomever we were at war with) are somehow manipulating us to unknowingly kill off the remaining humans on earth.

@TheSonic
This is one of those movies where nobody cares about it enough to keep it secret. They think if the put everything out there than more people would be interested.

Agreed. On the fence about Cruise in this movie though. I think a fresh face was needed for this role, someone rather unknown to grow into such a large role (in what could be a series of films). I feel as though Cruise's name has grown bigger than his acting abilities (and I do not necessarily mean that as a criticism towards him, I think he's a fine actor). But it has had an effect that puts me, and probably other as well, in the mindset of watching Tom Cruise rather than buying the character he is portraying.

Aside from that, this looks like it's going to at least be an interesting and fun movie.

Tom Cruise has quite a messed up personal life, but he's one entertaining dude. Can't deny that!

@Humby Or there never were any aliens and it was just one band of humans warring with another. The aliens were fabricated a la The Village.
