Warner Bros. has released the official synopsis for
Gravity (via
JoBlo), revealing some new details about the mysterious sci-fi project from the
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban director. Robert Downey Jr. was originally attached to star, but walked away only to later be replaced by George Clooney. Angelina Jolie, Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Blake Lively, Naomi Watts, Marion Cotillard, Carey Mulligan, Sienna Miller, Abbie Cornish, Rebecca Hall and Olivia Wilde all auditioned before Sandra Bullock was chosen.
[Sandra] Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky [George Clooney] in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone–tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness.
The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.
Doesn't sound too bad, eh? There's a lot of hype surrounding
Gravity, with rumours running rampant that the entire film will be shot in a limited number of takes, putting A LOT of pressure on the actors not to fluff their lines. The movie will be released in 3D on November 21, 2012.
