Warner Bros. has released the official synopsis for Gravity (via JoBlo), revealing some new details about the mysterious sci-fi project from the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban director. Robert Downey Jr. was originally attached to star, but walked away only to later be replaced by George Clooney. Angelina Jolie, Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Blake Lively, Naomi Watts, Marion Cotillard, Carey Mulligan, Sienna Miller, Abbie Cornish, Rebecca Hall and Olivia Wilde all auditioned before Sandra Bullock was chosen.

[Sandra] Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky [George Clooney] in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone–tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness.

The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

Doesn't sound too bad, eh? There's a lot of hype surrounding Gravity, with rumours running rampant that the entire film will be shot in a limited number of takes, putting A LOT of pressure on the actors not to fluff their lines. The movie will be released in 3D on November 21, 2012.

Sounds like a cool plot, although I would be much more enticed to see a movie starring, say, Downey and Olivia Wilde than Clooney and Sanda Bullock, two actors who do nothing for me.

Souds like a space based rip-off of the movie about the two divers stuck out in the ocean (I can't remember the name of th film). I hope this won't be as boring.

I remember seeing an interview with our pal Guillermo Del Toro and he was talking about the film, as he is friends with Alfonso Cauron, and he said it's amazing and that some of the stuff they were doing was ground breaking and incredible. So I can't wait especially after Caurons last film Children of Men which is so good :D

Plot sounds great. But i just cant stand Bullock. Wonder what made her so special that Cuaron chose her over those other great actresses?
Naomi Watts, Marion Cotillard or Kate Winslet would have been my choices.

This sounds great and truly terrifying. Not cheap terror like horror films but psychologically terrifying. What could be scarier than drifting into the expanse of space knowing you can't be rescued and knowing that every breath you take eats into your oxygen supply. Wow. I hope this ends up being as good as it sounds.

Sounds like its going to be REALLY BORING to watch. Two of my least fave actors alone in space. Great...

How awesome would it be if that synopsis was just the first 5 minutes then they get rescued by aliens and go on a crazy space adventure.
