When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

To read what director Guillermo del Toro had to say about the project, click the source below. Starring Charlie Hunnam (TV’s “Sons of Anarchy”), Idris Elba (“Thor”), Rinko Kikuchi (“The Brothers Bloom”), Charlie Day (“Horrible Bosses”), and Ron Perlman (the “Hellboy” films), Pacific Rim will be released on July 12, 2013.

That monster silhouette looks an awful lot like Godzilla. But I guess if you need a standard for kaiju, that'd be the way to go.

Can someone explain what the logic may be as to why we need robots to take them down instead of long-distance missiles?

Maybe they cant do the job? Not seen the movie yet so?...

Someone here once said something like this.

"Your drones will get eaten and Nukes are just a big no; considering you will most likely need two to take one of those bad boys out. People are not exactly looking forward to a nuclear winter."

I´ve heard something about toxic blood too.

@pintoman they cant blow them up because when they're are killed or blown up they release some kind of toxic substance called blue which renders entires cities inhabitable as the stuff that is released is toxic to humans, so they're pretty much walking bombs
