PACIFIC RIM Reaches $400M Worldwide; Blu-ray 3D Cover And Collector's Edition Revealed

As you can see from the Tweet below, Pacific Rim has managed to reach $100 million in North America, giving it a worldwide total of $400 million. While this is certainly a better result than many ever expected, the huge production budget and marketing costs may still mean that the studio will never truly be comfortable enough to greenlight a sequel. Stranger things have happened of course, so we'll just have to wait and see! Thanks to Twitter's @_NerdyGeek_, we also have a first look at the Blu-ray 3D cover and Collector's Edition. Do you guys plan on picking either of these up?

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot and an untested trainee — who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

I don't know about the collector edition. Just as long as it comes in a case that fits on my shelf and a statue I can display elsewhere. If the disks go inside the statue thats lame as hell and I wont get it.

But what I will 100% do is get Pacific Rim on blu-ray in some form or another the day its released. Hands down the best movie of 2013 to date.

Being that most of us grew up watching giant things fight each other, yes I believe that does make us happy. Don't see how that's bonkers.

Finally a success, but if there's anything I hope for is that it doesn't get a sequel.

You get a sequel if you sign THE ROCK or some other big name for the lead. Only way it happens. For example THE ROCK comes in and plays the Idris Alba Role in the sequel you have a 700 million dollar winner.

Just not into giant robots, but I'm glad that it exists for people who do.

It's not bonkers in theory, I also love to see that type of stuff..but without a SINGLE other aspect worth a damn in an entire movie? When the characters are so one dimensional and annoying that you're actually hoping they'll die? When dialog is so bad it makes you laugh out loud in the theater? That's bonkers.

@Ror, Take into consideration that if one day before we're all dead, they actually made a Transformers movie that focused on the robots (e.g., War For Cybertron) and used merely a few human characters.... People would bitch about the humans not having any depth. Just speaking an universal truth here...

Pacific Rim was great. I didn't grow up on Transformers or Power Rangers, I was always more TMNT, Rocko's Modern Life, Batman TAS, Spider-Man TAS, Ren & Stimpy and Thundercats. Thus, I wasn't too "OMFG, ROBOTS!" about Pacific Rim, but it was really good and got me extremely giddy for Godzilla.

I liked the movie, but I don't care about a sequel, Del Toro should move on new things, like JLD or AtMoM. Though I'm afraid that the Legendary/WB split killed the Justice League Dark movie.

Make a sequel but make it cheaper if possible. You cant make 200 plus movies anymore and see a profit. Not unless you have Avengers or Batman in the title.

Personally LOVED it... of course I am biased, having grown up on Godzilla and being a huge GdT fan (so glad he never made the Hobbit films, they just wouldn't have suited him). PR is also one of the warmest, most heartfelt films I've ever seen, including character driven indies and dramas. Those saying it's one- dimensional with flat characters probably haven't seen Star Wars in a long while.
