Home Video And Rental Sales Look To Breathe New Life Into The Possibility Of A POWER RANGERS Sequel
Power Rangers' box-office total fell below expectations, and chances of a sequel looked bleak. However, the film is doing well in home video and rentals sales, which could make another film a possibility.
Lionsgate and Saban looked to make a big splash when it announced Power Rangers, and even had a plan to develop as many as seven films. When the movie was released back in March it floundered at the box-office, a fact that director Dean Israelite attributed to the PG-13 rating. The prospects of a sequel looked slim, although Israelite revealed that plans have been discussed by the studios.
The film may have gotten a shot in the arm, as according to Home Media Magazine, it is doing rather well in the home video and rental sales. So well, that it is expected to nab the top spot over John Wick: Chapter 2 and Beauty and The Beast in home video sales, and beat Logan and Life for the top rental spot.
As CinemaBlend points out, this surge in home video sales could be what the franchise needs to help get a second movie made. Along with the home video and rental sales, the film has strong merchandising and toy numbers, which is no guarantee that a second movie will be made, but certainly helps.
