Quick1029's Top Films of 2015

2015 was a year of highs and lows. What were the highs? What were the lows that I considered highs?

Okay, so let's just get some things out of the way:

  1. I did not see Mad Max: Fury Road. So that's why it's not on the list.
  2. You may not agree with some of these choices. Please don't freak out about it.
  3. This list is not in any order. These are just the films I thought were the best.
As I said, this list will not be a top 10 or a worst to best. It's just: "Hey, here are some films I saw and loved". There will be a couple of choices on this list that you will not agree with. In fact, I will start this off with two films that no one liked except for me:
FILM THAT I ONLY LIKED #1:
Tomorrowland is directed by Brad Bird. Many considered this movie to be his fall from grace. Not me. This movie has great acting, great characters. But the best thing is the message. We spend a lot of time thinking about how the world will end. Three years ago, everyone thought the world was going to end. And this movie is all about how we should look ahead to the bright future. However, I understand why people don't like this. Some people think the message isn't subtle. Some thought the "romance" was creepy (can't blame you). But I still love this.

FILM THAT I ONLY LIKED #2:

I knew I was going to like this more than everyone else, because I liked the book ending more than everyone else. I feel the film had great characters, great emotion, great acting, great twists, and was a great conclusion to a great series. Some people felt the ending went on too long. And while I felt one or two scenes could have been cut, it didn't bother me. I loved it.

Enough with the controversials. Let's talk about films people won't kill me for liking.

Rewatching this movie, there's a lot of stuff it does better than the original. They actually add in character development, espicially with Hawkeye. There's the great cabin scene where they all have visions they try to deal with. The comradery is fantastic. The party scene could be it's own short, and I wouldn't mind There are elements that should have been awful, like the romance, or comedic Ultron. But, to me, it works because the chemistry is nice and Ultron's jokes are really funny. While not perfect (the end is a bit familiar), what the film does well, it does amazingly.

Yeah, make fun of me all you want. When I saw Maleficent (Which was, to me at least, a disappointing movie.), I was not looking forward to Cinderella. But the movie had great actors for these parts and look visually stunning. But Maleficent had that too. So why does this work and not that? Well, because of the choices this makes. It adds stuff to the fairy tale that made some odd elements work. There's a reason Ella puts up with the stepmother. There's a reason why they checked every girl. It's this kind of stuff that makes me appriciate this film. Plus, it's better than the other retelling of a fairy tale (we'll get to that in the worst list)

This is a movie that could have failed with such an odd premise. But not only does it call itself out on this odd premise, but it does everything with it. The effects are great at showcasing Ant-Man's powers. The comedy is great, with Michael Pena as the highlight. The characters are great (I look forward to seeing Hope as Wasp). The acting is great, with Michael Douglas as the best actor. Even Ant-Man himself is great. He's such a likeable and sympathetic character that you're not just rooting for him to get the YellowJacket suit, you're rooting for him to reconnect with his family. Can't wait for Part 2.

This movie could have been a soulless cash-grab. But the people who made clearly understood Peanuts, grew up with Peanuts, and loved Peanuts. Charlie Brown is a likeable character, even sacraficing his chances to succeed in order to help others at some points. Snoopy is funny as the loyal dog with an odd mind. All the other characters were just like they were in the comics and cartoons. It has a good moral.  This is the definition of a feel-good animated family flick.

Speaking of which, here's an animated family flick about feeling good. I don't need to go into detail. I love it for the same reasons as everyone else. The comdey is creative. It does a good job of telling kids how the brain works without being too smart or too dumb. The characters are amazing. The moral, about how sadness is okay, is perfect. I'm glad one of the writers is cowriting Captain Marvel. The only thing I can say is #RIPBingBong.

J.J. and Disney had all the pressure in the order on them when they were making this movie. There was no way it could live up to the hype. Yet, it did. The writing? Great. The acting? Great. The action? Great. The cinematography? Great. The twists? Great. The comedy? Great. The characters? PHENOMENAL! Highlights include: Kylo Ren. Without giving anything away, he is one of the most well-developed and human villains I've ever seen. Rey. She's such a mysterious, likeable, and badass character who you want to see more of. But the best are Han and Chewie and I don't need to explain why. (Actually, I do. But that would involve spoilers).

And those were my favorites of 2015.
My worst list is coming soon.
Please don't kill me for liking TomorrowLand and Mockingjay Part 2.
Do you agree with my other choices?

Everytime I see one of these lists, I get frustrated. I think I might be a film snob.

Anyway, all the things I keep hearing about Cinderella really makes me want to check it out. I didn't even know they made a live action Cinderella movie!

@Quick1029 tomorrowland started off with such good promise, I think the third act when they got there and the big bad isn't really a big bad is what let that film down. As for F4 I liken that film to a a Ferrari put together by chimpanzees. Lots of good ideas that were discarded as soon as they were introduced.

I HIGHLY recommend seeing Room, Steve Jobs, Ex Machina, 99 Homes and Spotlight

They are probably the best I've seen this year
