This March, get ready to enter the OASIS with Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One.

After that exciting SDCC sneak peek earlier this year, Warner Bros. has finally debuted the official theatrical trailer for the highly-anticipated adaptation, featuring our first look at both Parzival and Art3mis going on the most epic Easter egg hunt of all-time.

There's a lot to digest, so this trailer will require multiple viewings, but at first glance there seems to be several differences between the movie and source material, mainly with the relationship between Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) and Samantha (Olivia Cooke) in the real world. We're also given a brief preview of the final battle, which includes a number of fan-favorites including the Iron Giant, an RX-78 Gundam, Chucky, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Ryu, Tracer, Chun Li, and many more.

Watch the new theatrical trailer below:

Plus, check out the live trailer launch Q&A with author Ernest Cline below:

The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

Ready Player One features:
Director: Steven Spielberg
Tye Sheridan as Wade Owen Watts/Parzival
Olivia Cooke as Art3mis
Ben Mendelsohn as Nolan Sorrento
Simon Pegg as Ogden "Og" Morrow
Mark Rylance as James Donovan Halliday/Anorak

Lena Waithe as Aech

Win Morisaki as Toshiro Yoshiaki/Daito
Philip Zhao as Akihide Karatsu/Shoto
Ralph Ineson as Rick
Letitia Wright as Reb
Mckenna Grace in an undisclosed role

Ready Player One logs into the OASIS on March 30

Looks like they've made from pretty big changes from the book, still very excited to see it though.

@Prork - Yeah, I'm pretty sure Parzival and Artemis don't meet until the very end of the book and it looks like Sorrento is going to have a much bigger role, but I don't need a page-by-page adaptation.

Not a great cast IMHO. They seemed not totally committed to embracing the eighties vibe. I didn't see a certain giant Japanese icon at the end that is kind of a "must do." Looks like they threw a ton of money into the effects work, though.

@MarkV - I'm thinking they went with a cheap average cast and focused more money on visuals

@MarkV - they're using the iron giant instead

@ForDarkseid - I find Ty whatever kinda boring but Olivia Cooke is awesome. Hope she makes it into more blockbusters. She’s my top pick for Mary Jane in the MCU.

@MarkV - its a little thing called copyrights. They probably didn’t get the licensing

@MarkV -

"Looks like they threw a ton of money into the effects work, though."

You say this, but a considerable amount of the visuals here look terrible and many characters are darkened to the point of seeing just the outlines. It's not terrible CGI - but it should be better considering modern games have better quality.

@MarkV - I kmow what you mean. I love Rylance, but this was a great opportunity to cast someone meaningful to the period.

Also, I think we'll find that most of the IPs in the film are already owned in some way by WB. So Iron Giant instead of...who was it (I can't even remember)... Ultraman?

Two of my favourite books I have read in the last few years are going to become a movie and a TV show, Ready Player One and Altered Carbon.

Both are worth reading, and I look forward to the adaptions.

Man I need a really good book to read, has been a struggle recently.

Looks fantastic! Btw, a bit of suprised that Peter Parker and Bruce Banner were mentioned in a WB production instead of Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne
