The most memorable scene in Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes was probably when mistreated chimp Caesar (Andy Serkis) finally had enough abuse and retaliated while shouting "Noooooo" at his tormentor. Of course knowing where this story will eventually go, this is clearly a precursor to all of the apes speaking when they ascend to power. But will they be chatting away as soon as the first follow up comes along? In today's Q & A with Jeff Goldsmith podcast screenwriter Amanda Silver speaks a little about the sequel. She says that the title will be "Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes: Part Two" but is most likely joking or just unwilling to discuss the real title (if they have one yet). She also says..
We’re working on the sequel right now, to the prequel, and so the excitement is – I’m not gonna tell you, but – are they gonna talk or not? Part of the challenge was how to get across what was happening between the apes without words. In the end I think it was a good challenge for us. It created better storytelling.
That sounds to me like she is suggesting they will have a different challenge next time in how to have the apes speaking openly. But That's just me. It would certainly be the natural progression of the story, but it all depends on how many sequels Fox are going to squeeze out here. They could just have the apes utter the occasional word in the next one and save the full on conversation for a third movie. I think that might actually be a better way to ease into it myself. What do you guys think?
Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes is out now on Blu-ray and DVD.
