Could Russell Crowe Be The Next ROBOCOP?

Could Russell Crowe Be The Next ROBOCOP?

Jeff Sneider of Variety is the king of scoops and he just tweeted that Russell Crowe might star in Robocop. What do you think of that?

One of the most reliable sources for scoops is Variety's Jeff Sneider. So, when he drop a little hint, it's a big deal. This time he has tweeted that Russell Crowe might star in Jose Padilha's reboot of Robocop. When I asked him if this tweet was a joke, Jeff replied, "NO." What do you think? Would you like to see Russell Crowe as Alex Murphy?

Russell Crowe has gone through quite a dramatic weight loss. Below on the left is the most recent photo of him, and the one on the right from a year ago.

Honestly, I don't know. I wouldn't really care if he did or not. I think he'd be better suited for Noah.

THERE'S A REASON WHY ROBOCOP WORKED. PETER WELLER. THE ROBOT MIME, THE VOICE, HE WAS SLIM SO PUTTING ON THE BULKY ROBOT SUIT EVENED IT ALL OUT..YOU GET THAT BALANCE WITH A REALLY SOLID SCRIPT AND IT "FUNCTIONS". THEY OUGHT TO GO FOR NEWCOMERS.

I think he could work if he slimmed down and got back in Sid 6.7 mode and piss off the wrong people and get shot up and then boom. He's robobcop.

Odd choice, but I like Crowe as an actor. He brings a lot of humanity to his characters. Also who says he'll even be in a suit like Weller was? They just did that because of the limitations of visual efx back then. ROBOCOP isn't a man in a mechanical shell like IRON MAN. Only his brain and a few vital organs are human, the rest is machine parts. They could put Crowe in a green screen body suit and then CGI him up any body they want now, so his weight is irrelevant. Even though he recently slimmed down quite a bit anyway. He could end up looking like a T-800 skeleton with Crowe's face on it for all we know.

That's as ludicrous as Ron Pearlman for Judge Dredd at the age of 62 and the constant wailing of sad fans for Nathan Fillion to play Green Lantern and lord knows whoever else in Spandex.

Or they could simply use CGI and smack his face on it.

If not, who said bulky ROBOCOP needs a slim actor. Remember Iron Monger/ Obadiah Stane played by Jeff Bridges.Today's version of Robocop can be huge and bulky like a tank.

Although having said that I'm actually not sure if Russel Crowe is the even right actor for it. Perhaps a talented unknown actor would do justice. Just assign veterans/ stars for the supporting cast and villain. I think it was this factor why the original was a hit.

It would be COOL to see Crowe do it, and nobody can deny that he could pull it off very well, but he is definitely

NOT THE FIRST CHOICE!!!

I do think though they should go with someone older and more rugged kind of like Crowe....at least 40....have his age play into the movie....

JEFFREY DEAN MORGAN!!!
JOSH BROLIN!!!

No. I dont think he's right for the part. Tbh I'd rather see a new or fairly new upcoming actor that will actually do an amazing job. No hiring someone already famous to give the movie more hype even if hes not right for the role.

don't know about robocop, but i would mind seeing him in the blade runner 2 maybe like a deckard character.

maybe as wolverine in an "old man logan" movie.
